Yeah, it's an XJ, so fawking what!!

Anyways, it's my dad's 90 XJ. My family bought it new back in 90 and it has been retired to backup vehicle status and the occasional hunting rig. It's in cherry condition, and we're lifting it to make a better hunting rig, hence the name Cherry Hunter. Any other interpretations of the name are simply figments of your imagination! :D

Here's what we started with:

Taking the front end apart:

My dad trying to help out, I had to end up putting the spring in myself, lol.

Putting anti-seize on the control arms. This is a MUST in Denver!!

Not sure what my dad is doing here, but the front's almost done.

Got the front end done, taking her for a quick spin to make sure all is well.

Getting ready to dive into the rear:

Then we ran into this problem and gave up for the night. To get the bolt out of the shackle, you have to pull the trailer hitch off. Who's the dumb fawk who thought up that idea?

Planning on finishing up the rear end tomorrow. Need to get some 31's on there and then get some tow points up front. Also planning on swapping to a 95-96 brake setup as it has a dual diaphram brake booster that will stop this thing MUCH better than its current setup.

Are ya done yet!

BTW, you might also have to pull the gas tank to get that stupid bolt out of the shackle.

Corey, I saw that you made the last post and instantly knew you were gonna ask if I was done! I was checking it out and it looks like the bolt will clear the tank just fine. Guess I'll find out tomorrow. I'm off to bed, fawkin exhausted from wrenching all day long.

Cut the damn bolt in half, then finish punching it out. Put it back in with the nut on the inside.

Looks good.

Replace it with a new bolt. It don't matter now that you got it taken care of.

The thought had crossed my mind, but by the time you cut it out of there, and then go track down another Grade 8 bolt like, we were going to be way ahead of the game just dropping the hitch.

At least the bolt wasn't seized up to the bushing inside the leaf spring. That was my last XJ suspension experience. Ended up having to melt the bushing out to punch the bolt on through.

Then on the opposite side - when we were putting everything back together - The nut inside the framerail broke loose and started spinning. Cut us a cool little access hole in the floor under rear seat to deal with that.

I dig coil springs.

We had the bolt seize to the bushing on one of the front mounts. Somehow we pulled the metal sleeve out enough from the bushing itself that we were able to get a screwdriver in the slit in the sleeve and that allowed the bolt to break free from the sleeve. Weird.

Cut that damn bolt off. Funny my last Jeep was a Cherry 91 XJ with 3.5 " and 31s. They are tough as Alaska ZJs ass and can take a beatin'. Goodluck on the rear. I did my front lift in 1.5. The rear took all weekend. Upper shocks bolts break off in the frame, the front leaf spring bolt breaks off in the frame, the upper rear leaf spring bolt broke off in the frame. Oh yeh!.. have fun

Guess I should upload those huh?

The XJ lived through its task last week. My dad was down near Gunnison hunting for a week. Never bottomed out and traction was never an issue. Now if he could just learn how to drive!!! He was complaining to me how it had NO power going up really steep stuff. He didn't even put it in 4lo! One of the spark plugs is arcing pretty good every 15 seconds or so when the engine's warm, so we'll be changing out the plugs and wires here pretty soon. Also I got the parts for the brake upgrade this weekend, so I'll get some pics of that job too.

Hell, it's done, just haven't uploaded the pics yet. Had Corey upgrade it to the dual diaphragm booster since I didn't have any time. I might have a trail pic somewhere, just not sure. I'll probably do a little more in-depth write-up on it here soon for the "featured rigs" section.

LOL, typical over-zelous software "scare tactic" firewall. It's clean.
