I ended up needing a vise this past weekend. I picked up a cheap 4" vise from Wal-Mart sunday night (no other options after 9:00PM Sunday here in the South). I plan on getting a better one for in the shop, so I figured this one would be nice on the trail. I took an 8" piece of 2x2x.25 square tubing and welded a 5"x5" piece of 1/8" sheet/plate to it. Then I marked and drilled the 1/8" plate for the 4 bolts of the vise and drilled the box tubing for a receiver hitch pin (5/8" IIRC). It works OK, a little loose in the hitch, but overall, I think it'll work nicely on the trail for a U-joint replacement or something along those lines.

The vise cost me ~ $10
The bolts, plate, and box tubing I had lying around.

If anybody wants, I'll post a couple of pics after this weekend. I've got a bunch of stuff to take some snap shots of, so I'll add this to the list. Hopefully along with a finished front bumper. 8)

Yep that's pretty much it - `cept you used angle instead of the 1/8" plate. If I were to do it again, I'd probably use angle just so it would be a bit stronger.
