just changed my fuel pump a week or so ago because I was having acceleration problems. Problem went away...or so I thought. I can drive to and from work which is about 30 minutes each way. If I go somewhere out of the way before I go home, I start getting some acceration problems. I give it gas and it doesnt want to go. I've also noticed this after driving on the interstate for about 10 miles. Drives great and then it just starts feeling like its not getting gas. Almost sounds like the engine is getting smothered or something. Any guesses? My guess is the cat may be going bad. Any help wiould be greatly appreciated. thanks-Dave

If it feels like its smothering, I would definetly check the cat. Did you change your fuel filter?

yes..fuel filter was changed. Changed the o2 sensor on the cat also. Going to change the other one this weekend since I figured out where it was.

I had a similar experience. it was the fuel pump. I could fart around town, but on the highway, couldn't get up to speed, would want to stall.

I looked through a lot of other stuff first, cause I didn't think the pump would go like that. figured they would just stop working.

jeep runs fine on the highway until about 20 minutes or so. Then it starts acting like its straving for fuel or suffocating for air.

Sounds like you need a new cat. Might as well upgrade the exhaust while you are at it as well.

hope the cat is the problem. I've been wanting to upgrade my exahaust ever since I started learning about fixing my own jeep. I want to something good...but not loud.

Check Ebay for a hi-flo cat like this one....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7909630830&catego ry=33629

Nick is good for it too (Kolak), or Kevin, but the ebay price is pretty good.

Good luck.......

Try fuel Injection cleaner.
the fuel injectors are affected by heat maybe you have a "Lazy" fuel injector that is wanting to fail.

If you have a high mileage 185000+ grand your valve stem seals may be starting to go leaking oil into the combustion chamber at higher engine tempatures I have noticed this problem on my 93 in the Hot texas summer this problem is what caused my cat to fail.
