Well, I figure it is time to get rid of that dreaded 35c. I have found a brand new 8.8 for $500. Is it worth it or should I try and find a better deal.

I know that I have to weld some new spring perches but what else needs to be done before I slap that puppy on there?

What have some of you guys paid for these axles?

Oh, that is a complete axle. Calipers, pads, rotars, and 4.10 gearing, never been installed.

When I post a link to a writeup on JU it should indicate the proper place for stuff like this. I'm gonna leave it up simply for search value.

i see a lot of them brand new for about $400 complete, but those only have 3.55 gears, so $100 more for 4.10s sound good

Not a bad deal, I'd do it if I wanted one.

i've swapped in an 8.8 and now a 9" so I have dealt with both axles. get the 9".
they are both very easy to swap into the grand but the 9" is better in every way.
you can pick up a 9" for $100 or so. get one out of a full size bronco or f150 for the large bearings and stronger housing.

I say go with the 9" too.. You can ad disk brakes and your getting a much stronger axle, with more and cheaper upgrades...

I paid 350 for mine... brand new 8.8 with 31 spline shafts, and complete disk brakes. I don't give a shit about the gears or the carrier that it came with... lol so ARBed 4.56s with MORE brackets later, I have a pretty trick 8.8

AprilzWarrior was kind enough to let me use his 8.8 writeup over here too.

Exact same thing as above, just not on JU.

I've been buying the parts pretty slowly so it hasn't been all that bad. I guess 350 is alot for an 8.8 however it was local so I didn't have to pay shipping and it has 0 miles on it.

Gears and an ARB is pretty normal for what we do for any axle. This one doesn't have too much more money in it, but holy shit would it take some time!!

yea but after seeing how inexpensively i could set up my 9", i don't see any benefit with the 8.8. i have a bigger r&p, extra pinion support, all steel housing, bigger disc brakes, removable 3rd, no c clips, huge pinion all for less money.
