Im lookin to fab a rear bumper in the next week or so and wanted to get people opinions on either a tube bumper like Proto Fab's or a normal channel bumper like a warn or whatever (boxed).

Im thinkin tube b/c i can brace it a little easier and it would be a little lighter.....but the steel for a boxed bumper would be way easier to get steel for and do myself. The tube i'd have to find someone to bend or cut and weld a 90* for the corners and stuff. ....I just really like the Protofab, simple and effective

personally i think tube bumpers don't suit the ZJ body. plus being a uni-body there is junk behind the bumper that is visible and it looks ghey IMHO. HSS is easy to work with and makes for a nice bumper.

wow, really nice Kraqa.

mine has 2x4 into the unibody, and uses the trailer hitch holes for mounting. I've since done a gas skidplate, so the unibody is sandwiched pretty good.

Nice work chop shop. Very very nice.
Ya'll could be a lazy fuck like me. Put a stock tj bumper on there. It's not even bolted on. It's welded on because that was quicker. :) hell I can highlift off of it.

I do like how you can get the box to fit really nice....its just a matter of me finding the time to do it.

Does that 2x4 slide right into the unibody? That seems like a really nice and easy way to mount the bumper. I was worried about bring it back the unibody to get strength out of it.

2x2 fits right into the frame rails. that swhat i used. you will have to trim to fit 2x4.

I got the chrome diamond plate over on nagca.com. check it out.

the 2x4 slides in with minimal trimming, just a bit of sheetmetal to bend back that blocks the enterance. like a hymen.

no side pics at the moment kraqa, but got a wack of build pics. camera is pooped out right now. I did a lot of rust repair in the back, I think I raised the floor a few inches, and cut away some excess stuff. I'm not sure you could copy what I did and clear a stock floor. maybe.
