The GSSE-W planners have been discussing this event, and right now we're leaning very strongly toward the last weekend in February. That would make the dates of this event Feb 25-27.

We've talked about several locations. We like the idea of a small park to keep the groups closer to each other (although not crowded together) and able to have more interaction. Windrock was a lot of fun last year, but its size and layout prevented groups from being able to tag along and watch other groups out on the trails.

There has also been some interest in making GSSE-W a traveling event, meaning we hold it at a different park each year. Since the abundance of private parks makes the Southeast US pretty unique, holding the event at a new place every year would let us wheel new trails and patronize different parks. We're open to your input on that idea, as well as anything else that you guys want this event to be.

Here are the parks we're looking strongly at:

Anybody?

I like all three options. I lean towards GMP because it's closest to home for me and it has bunk houses on site. It does cost a little more though.

Hale and Crusher Ridge look badass too so I don't think there is a bad option.

I vote for Crusher Ridge.

Simply because it's probably a bit further than I'd like to drive, so I wouldn't go there anyways. Since I'm not going to make GSSE-W this year, I want Golden Mountain to remain an option in subsequent years ;-)

But seriously -- I don't know that I really should have a "say" since I'm not going, so you can ignore this if you want ;-)

You need to arrange a "family" weekend. Invite the mother, sister, aunt, best friend, whoever and let them have some time to bond with little one. Good luck. :)

Bring on the objections and celebrations ;)

What's another hour?

Windrock and Harlan are about an hour difference for me and to be honest, I didn't notice a difference. When you are talking about a trip that long, an extra hour isn't going to be a big deal.

Hales 5 hours from us, but everything else about it sounds awesome. The idea that wed have the whole park and its only $15 a person rocks. Money plays a factor for almost everyone in our club. Crusher ridge looks a little much for my full bodied zj on 33s but I cant say much, never been.

Either way If the location isn't extremely far I'll be able to plan this trip as our February trip for the club and make sure we all make it there.

ATL ZJ
11-12-2010, 12:55 PM
Ronnie, compared to GMP, what you'd save in wheeling fees you'd pay in extra gas to get to Hale. We are really leaning toward GMP because it has a nice variety of trails and it's a little more centrally located for the normal GSSE crowd. Glad to hear you guys are hoping to join us.

If you guys are bringing a lot of people we might even consider doing a group meal... they have pavilions available for that kind of thing. Or we could all just convoy over to that awesome little restaurant right by windrock for some BBQ and fat tire :smt037 :smt106

Well, I have to personally apologize for the delays guys. The other planners and I (emphasis on I, as it's primarily my fault) have been dragging due to a number of interrelated unknowns that aren't directly connected to the event but could affect our participation. This past week it became clear that these potential conflicts won't be as big of a factor, if one at all, as we thought. So I think it's finally safe to plan on the original dates.

Trey, Pearce, Ryan, or anybody else- chime in if I misspoke here.

Just sent an email to see if they have a bunk room available for those days. Here is the email response:

Hi Clay,

We do have a bunkhouse available for ck in on Feb 24 and ck out on Feb 27. Bunkhouses are $55 a night and require a $55 deposit per bunkhouse (first night's stay). You may go to our website and pay the deposit by using Pay Pal. There is also a $50 damage deposit which is assessed at the gate. Typically, you will pay the park attendant with a cheque and if there are no damages to the bunkhouse, your cheque will be returned to you when you leave. I will need you to provide me with the following information:

* Check in and check out dates.
* Name of your organization if applicable.
* How many in your party.
* How many rigs will you be bringing.
* Cell phone number where you can be reached during your stay at the park.
* No pets allowed in bunkhouses.

Also for a quicker check in process you can go to our website and print out and complete the "Waiver/Release" form and bring it with you to the park.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Regards,

Jayne Randolph

The lodging will be different than last year when we all crashed in one cabin. At GMP they have individual bunkhouses on site that rent for $50/night. They sleep at least two. More if you really like each other. ;)

I was thinking about camping but if it's too cold I may say eff it and go in on a bunkhouse. From the pics it looks like there are only two beds per bunkhouse, for a max of 3 people, but I don't see any reason a few people couldn't use some floor space. Would make the costs more reasonable and there are only ~5 bunkhouses anyway, IIRC, so it would give more than 10-15 people a warm place to sleep.

I am really not sure. It looks like the axle took most of the hit, and I doubt it is still straight, I just hope my chromolly shafts and CTM joints are still OK. If the uni did buckle it is right at that frame side mount, but the driver door still opens and closes fine, so I am not sure.

If they try to screw you, just threaten a law suit. The last thing they will want is to get dragged into court and I'm guessing they would much rather settle out of court instead. They don't really have to much of a defense going for them.

Good luck. I'm not one for lawyers or suing in general but if they attempt to screw you, let them know that you are ready to play hard ball.

BigClay
01-27-2011, 09:28 AM
Supposedly I will stil get some cash even if they total it and I buy it back. This is what I have been told (by friends not the adjuster) that if they decide the value of the Jeep is $2k, then if I decide to keep it, they will take out a percentage (I am assuming the value they would have expected to get from the salvage yard) so lets say $400. In this scenario I would get to keep the jeep (and it will have a salvage title, but who cares) and they would give me $1,600 (2,000 - 400).

So that is better than I was thinking, I thought I would have to buy it back for the total $2k and then have no money to repair it with.

I'm gonna run the numbers on what it would cost me to go and transfer that money into savings for big boy axles if I can swing it.

So, my bank account is going to think that I'm coming, does that count? :-)

GMP was in the radius of the area where I would seriously consider going with a functional rig, so that's how I'm justifying this "trip" ;-)

This. I will probably have an empty passenger seat and I'm sure there will be others available too.

I've been doing my own version of "keep the change" with my checking account that's been good for about $50 extra/month. I've also been actually "saving" the money I save for stuff I normally buy. So if I save 50 cents from a coupon or something -- that 50 cents is going into savings. I also put whatever money I save into savings if I decide to not buy something after giving serious consideration to it. There have also been some bills that I've been able to cut back on after realizing that I was overpaying for some stuff. That monthly difference gets dumped into savings, too.

I'm noticing a huge difference already in what I can save and I haven't even really altered my lifestyle.

Dayum! Sorry to hear Clay. Did the axle bend or did it just screw up the steering. Did the unibody buckle anywhere? Totaled?

I gotta say it looks like you Jeep took it a lot better than his car!

Buy that shit back Clay and use the funds to upgrade. You can't get knocked out of the game like that. You have to trash 'em on the trail for a Jeep to die, and even then it's still up for debate!

LOL, I am certainly going to keep it and fix it, don't worry about that.

Even if they total it, I should still get about $1500 cash, so that should cover the steering, axle housing and maybe a lower long arm or two. Hopefully the tranny and t-case are repairable.

I finally got out there this mroning and changed the front tire, so now it is at least on four inflated tires. I looked at the tire, and it deflated because of a tear in the sidewall, so that is good because I thought it was the impact of the crash that popped the bead. I can probably get the side wall repaired and use that tire as a second spare.

Dang clay! (i havent been on here in a while) that sucks, looks like it didnt mess up the jeep too much, hopefully just steering and a tire and your good to go.

So, who has stuff left to do before the end of the month?

I still have to finish the rear four link and bump stop the front axle a little more. I have been really busy with "other" crap and haven't had much time for the Jeep lately but I will get it done.

extend front axle truss over cast down to bump pad

It sounds like Conti and my brother will be making the trip down. A couple of other guys will probably come down with them. They should have two rigs if not three.

Im hoping fuel doesn't go up much more...if there will be anything making me miss this trip it will be the cost of fuel. I really hope it will bottom out around $2.90/gal and i will still be able to make it.....

everything I've read says they should drop a few cents or stay around where they are, then average out in the 3.1x range for the rest of the year...
