So I'm thinking of building an expo trailer for the diesel WJ I am about done with (gotta get back home to finish the last few things on it first) and am in the middle of planning for it while out on the rig.

I will be doing a custom rear axle very soon (plan to start on it 2 days after I get home) so I wont be needing the D35 anymore. I was thinking I could use it for an expo trailer as I could use the brakes on it for the trailer or as spares, and the track width would be perfect as well as I could get some matching wheels from the junkyard and toss on some matching tires.

What say you? use the d35 or just get a regular 3500 pound axle with a 5x5 bolt pattern?

I am not planning on going too big just something with a cargo area of about 6ft long and an extra long tongue for fuel and water cans maybe a generator or something also up front.

Just get a regular 3500lb axle w/ electric brakes. It'll also be lighter than the WJ axle, and better ground clearance as there will be no diff.

Ditto to what Dave said.

Ok you guys convinced me :D The regular trailer axles are cheap enough anyway. I ordered all the steel for the frame today anyway, might as well keep the axle as nice as the rest of the trailer.

You could use a front axle off of a 2wd. It won't have the diff and will have the spares you're looking for and depending if you are going to run leafs or coils, it already has the coil stuff on it. Just a thought.

iv had the idea for my trailer to use a set of 14 bolt hubs, and throw some shafts in it, that way i allways have spare shafts when i take the trailer.

no im not talking about used a 14 bolt housting, just the hubs.

Will you really be bringing a trailer through a spot where you might break a 14b shaft??
