ya can't go wrong with any miller product IMHO. Looks like a nice machine. The duty cycle is on the low side but its average for a machine that size. It'll make a great home owners machine for small projects like bumpers and cages, plus it looks small enough to bring to your buddies house without it being a major hassle. Having the the MVP plug on the machine is also a plus having the ability to plug into 120v or 230v outlets. The spool gun ready feature for welding aluminum is a nice feature also.

Edit: As far a welding 1/2 with this machine it is pushing the OUTER limits of the machine. I would definately run the machine on 230v and pre-heat the steel with a torch unitll its glowing red. This way the steel is already up to temp and you don't have to rely on the voltage or the amps of the machine to get the material hot enough for a good penetrating weld. like you mentioned the bevel is key with the thicker material. Overall it is doable will small brackets like shackle or clevis mounts but i would not recommend doing this on a larger bracket.
