I got the dates set in the calender....

SirFuego
04-12-2010, 04:01 PM
About 1.5 more months!

The list isn't too bad for me:
Swap out steering box -- possibly hydro assist
Replace bent drag link TRE
Grind down sway bar mounts so I can turn fully left with my "high clearance" tie rod
Paint rock rings
Reseat tires with a little RTV to hopefully get rid of the self deflators at the bead
Put together OBA (I think this has been a goal I haven't accomplished for every wheeling event in the past two years)

I was just thinking about this and was going to post something up to get it on people minds. As for my list i guess ill have to wait to see what falls off the jeep at big dogs.

Here is some information that would be helpful to people that don't know me, or have never been to Rausch Creek.

The only costs associated with this event will be normal daily wheeling fees at Rausch Creek and for any t-shirts stickers you pre-order. From RC's website, here are the wheeling costs:

Rausch Creek Off Road Park is a membership-based facility. There are no pre-requisites or waiting lists. All drivers and passengers must sign a membership application & liability waiver. Drivers and passengers age 16 and up are required to become members of the park which costs $15 per year and is good for one year from the date you join. Membership cards are given out when you join.

Children age 15 and younger are free, however, we require a parental waiver. All members under the age of 18 also require a parental waiver.

The daily entrance fee is $35.00 for the vehicle and driver. Passengers age 16 and up are $7.00 each (When a passenger joins the park, the $5.00 fee is waived that day). We offer free primitive camping for our members.

Also, when you enter the park, the free primitive camping is located to the right of the entrance. I am planning to get there on Thursday the 27th before dark, so look for my rig (the Robot or a Red Ram 1500 with NY plates) if you want to camp with the GSNE crew. I will also be there with a teal TJ. This is my rig if you don't already know (minus the headlights since they have been recently cut off):

If you are staying in a hotel, look for the ones in Pine Grove. Many of them offer discounts to RC-goers, so mention that you are there because of the park. There is also a truck stop a few miles down the road where you can take a shower after wheeling if you wish.

Yep. Actually, I think there are going to be as many (if not more) non-grands than grands...

By the way, I e-mailed Lynne and we are clear to camp Thurs night-Sun night. Assuming me and my buddy Tom are the first ones there on that Thursday, we'll take the first camping spot on the right.

lol I really need to get a calendar instead of counting days in my head. Sides with trying to get those front CO in in time, i'm going to need everyday possible. that and i'm leaving right from NY to go to GSSE.

i'm hoping all the parts will get here in time. If they do I may run two days if not ill just take it easy and run 1 day on the broken stuff unless the driveshaft parts don't show up then i'm screwed..

damn i found a ups box on my step today from the drive shaft place, two days after ordering with normal delivery. Not bad at all. The new coils and RE bushing should be here monday or Tuesday. Now the last major hurdle would be getting a hold of a tranny pan from the local pic and pull. I hoping the tranny holds out for bit longer. When I dropped the old pan I found a bunch of metal and crap in it which can't be good. Though it seems to be shifting fine(knock on wood)

also ramsport if you decide to drive up early sat morning instead of fri let me know and we can caravan up 83 together.

I was hoping to get a shakedown run this weekend to get the "new" tires dialed in for rocks, but the local raceway canceled their play day. At least it wascanceled due to construction of additional rock courses there :-D

Waggy box and steering brace are in. Need to hook the steering back up, bolt on the tires, and it should be wheelable.

How's the "frame"? Any stress cracks? Pics of steering brace? I'm curious what they do for that on the ZJ's. I know what the Chevy ones look like.

SirFuego

Joe -- not planning on hydro assist for a while. I might reconsider if this waggy box breaks on me, but I'm hoping it'll last me for a while.

Mike -- the "frame" was fine to be honest. My bolts were looser than they should have been. Not sure if that was the cause of the break or if they loosened up after the ear broke.

Here is a pic of the steering brace. It basically a small crossmember from rail to rail (to the swaybar mounts) that gearbox housing output.

What trails did you want to run on Saturday? Trying to figure out what to run on Friday and don't really want to duplicate a lot of trails this weekend. Figured I'd ask if there was anything in particular you want to run so we can put it off until Sat.

I'll be there with a teal TJ on 36s the whole weekend and my buddy Dave in a CJ-3A on 36s and a healthy V8 is coming down Friday night.

What trails did you want to run on Saturday?
hit the west property

J – 15 – 13B – 13A – 20 – 12B – 12C – dump out onto H - maybe run down to 18A - 18B

Break for lunch - Take trail requests

Boot Hill & Snake Bite are fun as hell – I’ve never done 22 – maybe try 23 (it’s a mud loop)

If time permits, scoot over to the east prop and run Crawler Ridge and Trail 2

finish up in the comp area

lol so is mine. went down to the local pick and pull and found out that they poke holes in all the jeep pans in order to drain them. I tried to use one of those self tapping drain plugs with some silicone but it didn't work so well.

as for trails i'm down for what ever since i have ran them all before.

Planning to pack in the morning and leave buffalo by 2. Should get there before dark. We might do the blacks on the east property on Friday (o trail, 5, yellowjacket, etc) and gauge it from there. Probxbly end the day back behind the old office near stairstep and.maybe jotters.

I'm hoping to be ready to wheel by 9, so use that as your target time to start. See everyone this weekend!

Jared, have you ever run rock creek on the west side?

slim616
05-27-2010, 12:22 PM
ahh jared you have that backwards, you want to do the easier stuff fri so your not broken for sat.

rock run is nice but im not sure how many rigs well have that will be able to do that at a good speed. I'll run any trail as long as the rigs with me can do it with out major effort. ie. a rig that should be on a green trail trying to go down a blue black with no damage type of thing. Not that i'm hating or anything, i just feel bad when a clean rig tears it self up under my watch and i feel bad for the group who has to wait for that rig.

Okay replaced all the bushings on the front end and it looks like my axle wrap problem has been solved. Especially since my one UCA bolt was broke and the other UCA bushing was gone. I found a small crack on the truss that needs to be fixed but other then a few small things I should be good to go for sat.

Any idea of how many rigs we'll have total?

SB406
05-27-2010, 01:49 PM
You guys should definately hit Cemetary on the West property. It's a mellow black (I'd almost call it blue-black) with really fun Red sections that parallel the black in spots. It's off E trail right near the end of B. Take B all the way to E. Make a left on E, and a quick right on Cemetary.

SirFuego
05-27-2010, 01:53 PM
What we run.on Friday will of course depend on who is in the group. I don't know that anyone on Friday other than me and Tom will be running blacks, so we might just do easier trails with black lines. Ill figure it out with rockzj who is supposed to lead the blue group.

I think the last count I got was 15 with about 5 grand Cherokees among them: )

Just got back from a shortened weekend.

I saw no grand cherokees there on Friday, so I went out with Tom in a Teal TJ.

Ran 1C (the hills and bowls) and my power steering pump quit working. After a trip into town yielded a new pump (had sort of a scare because the parts monkey accidentally looked up a water pump when I called him to see if they had any in stock, but they had a power steering pump).

Got back on the trails and did the rock garden on 1A and then ran Boot Hill and Tombstone. We realized Tom ripped off a rear shock mount at some point and heading back to try to get it welded back on. The MIG welder at the office was broken and neither of us could stick weld, so he wheeled the rest of the weekend without a rear shock.

Went back out and ran CV, "O", and 8. During the last climb at 8, my tranny started slipping. We let it cool down, but my tranny was done. Tom literally pushed me out of the trail with his TJ and towed me back to camp once we got to the access roads.

Rode with Tom on Saturday and met up with Slim616 in the morning. The first trail we ran was Walk in the Park -- which is an intentional misnomer. Joe was the first one through the crawling portion and gave her hell going up the hill climb and heard a big pop. His pinion was pointing straight up in the air and his upper control arm rod ends, coilovers, and rear driveshaft were done. We winched him up the hill and he limped back to camp.

After getting things squared away, we headed back to run Cemetary and Rock Creek. Tom's tcase kept kicking out of 4LO even with the linkage disconnected, so we finished up shortly after rock creek.

Drive home was uneventful until a flat trailer tire, but that set us back only about 15 minutes.

Good times this weekend despite my tranny going bye bye.

It's a new trail. A couple of the guys I was with have been going there for years and they never ran it. If you turn into the beginning of the CV trail, it's on the left at the bottom of the hill. I wouldn't even attempt it with any less than 35s. I don't know if the hill climb at the end was even doable in its current condition with all the dirt that is accumulated on the rock slabs.

I'll check her out next time I'm up at RC.

Since I'm "off" this year from wheeling my rig, the thought never crossed my mind. I have a wedding coming up in a couple weeks so I'll admit that my head hasn't been really focused much on wheeling.
