Got an opportunity to pick up a used 12 ton press for a decent price, just curious if I'll be kicking myself down the road for not going with a 20 ton.

Mostly going to be using to change out bushings and such in control arms.

12 ton should be enough IMHO, I managed too Snap an ear off a u joint with mine trying too do u joints on a spare shaft

12 ton is enough for most jobs... but I would recommend getting a fairly wide press. Besides the mechanical uses of having a press (setting gears, etc) there are a lot of fab related tasks that mandate a wider press, like a simple press break (can be made out of some scrap angle) or dimple die use. Even for small scale home garage use, I feel like most anyone could grow out of a 12 ton press pretty fast.

Let me know when you get this press. I'm tired of changing u-joints and wheel studs with a BFH and blocks of wood. :(

I imagine you're just changing bushings on that thing... 12 ton if fine!

Picking it up Wednesday. Figure for what I'm paying for it if I do outgrow it eventually I can still get 80-90% of what I paid for it back.

Getting it for the $89.99 sale that HF is having? That's what we just paid for the 12 ton one, makes u-joints a helluva lot easier!

Be careful with that. I wasted two perfectly good d60 35 spline non neckdown inners trying to press rusty joints out of them. Bent the ears right in. Finally took an air hammer to remove the joints, which I should have been using in the first place. Oh well, it was a good excuse for 4340 inners. :o

Ha yeah these were so rusty bitches, but it seemed to work well. Glad I didn't have to fork over that money yet, hopefully I never have to either since mine are also the non-neckdown inners.
