View Full Version : F-250 trans temp gauge
On my '02 F-250 (5.4L), it has a trans temp gauge in the cluster. Within probably 45 seconds from a cold start, the gauge is reading in the middle of the range, and that's where it stays.
Is this normal? It seems kinda odd.

The in-dash trans temp gauges on Fords like that are mostly just idiot lights. By the time it shows a problem, it's already too late.
Oh, is this like the "oil pressure gauges" Ford was putting in some cars....where the sender was actually just a switch, so there were only two possible positions the needle can point to (the "normal" position in the middle of the range, and basically zero)?

That's the way I understand it yeah. My 01 didn't have a tranny gauge at all, but when I was researching gauges everybody said how the in-dash gauges on the 02+ were worthless.
I'll have to pay attention to it a little more and see if it looks as if it only really has two positions.
