Better question...

Why post such a dumb 3 second video like the first one?

Good luck on the build man. Should turn out looking pretty cool! This is the first cage you've done that wasn't built w/in a cab right?

This is it mocked in there, it will be lower, as you can see, its resting on the top tube, so it will be lower, and you wont see as much as the 50* bend towards the back because we are shortening it a bit, looks good though.

Not to mention the tool availability:finga:

How'd that kid's parents like the 4 new holes the have in their driveway?

Seriously, though... I would have loved to have had the resources you guys seem to have up there. Things would've been much easier!

Nice job so far. Please be sure to post up more pics, especially once it's out of the garage.

Worked on sliders all day today so only had like 30 min at the end to work on rover. Only got the upper windshield bar done. Started with two bends and then added two more to flow to the windshield better. Debating on adding another two towards the end. In the pic it is sitting on top but obviously it will be just below the top of the windshield.

zj95maxx
04-11-2010, 06:14 PM
Had about an hour to work on the cage, I tacked in the A pillar after tweaking it some and then did the lower X bars.

First two are of bars, third pic is how they mount at bottom. The last pic is an idea I am thinking up. We didn't plan well enough when making A pillar bars and the plates are right on top of too much shit to put a plate and support underneath. Only can get 3 bolts in. So I am planning on running another piece of tube like so (obviously lower down) to a second plate which is in an area that CAN have a plate underneath so we can tie it to the frame. It would be directly behind it and not take up foot room like the picture shows. Might also make it an angled bar instead of bent.

zj95maxx

Stayed up way too late last night, didnt get to start till about 1:30, and having to cut some shit out of the way on the underside of the floorboard took way too long. Got two frame tie-ins done.

One question - why have the upper windshield bar below the line of the windshield itself? Do you plan on putting a top on this or something? To me it seems that it would have been smarter to put it above the line of the windshield so when you roll it your windshield wouldn't be crushed.

You are suggesting I angle the bar up? that would look dumb and prevent a roof if needed.

The windshield is fucked regardless if the bar is above it or not.

I think his question is why the cage isn't an inch or two higher to prevent the windshield from further damage....but if you already had the rest of it built I agree it would look dumb to angle it up to make that happen.

Yeah, exactly. One flop and the entire windshield is gone. Had you made it even an inch higher than the windshield frame then your windshield would be far more protected.

Spent about 5 hours today on the seat brackets. Had to make them from scratch, and there was a lot of bolting..unbolting..tacking..bolting..unbolting..p ainting...etc... Thus why it took so long.

Drilling out the seats to 1/2"

initial brackets

tabs welded on

Due to the bulky door panel I couldnt fit a piece of tube running along the floor from the B pillar to the A to allow tabs to be welded on for lap belt mounts. So I drilled a hole in the stock seat bracket and then welded a tab to it for added thickness. If jimmy wants them in double sheer he will have to lose the door panel... But there is no way I can double sheer the other side of the lap belt... I did the same thing on all lap belt mounts.

Gotta admit, the rover looks pretty good.

Them seats look real comfortable.

Nice fab work. I'd be curious to see what you could crank out of a garage. The driveway gets old real fast to me.

duuuuuuuudddeeee...WTF?

When we first made the B pillar we didnt realize we made it wider than the cage itself, but the owner actually likes it, whatever.

I put the Top bars to the lower part to support the B pillar that was sticking out.

Need some leverage? That bar for your bender looks super long. C'mon it's not that hard to pull. Put some of your weight into it. JK :)
