Well after this last stint with the jeep crapping out while out and about, I've decided to try and find a trailer.

My tow rig is a 2001.5 Dodge 2500 CTD short bed.

I've got a lead on a 20 foot gooseneck, linked below.

My real question is how would towing with a short bed be with that trailer? It's between one like that or just keep looking for a bumper pull.

He just dropped the price to 1550.

I think it would do just fine with a shortbed.

Well financially it makes more sense to stay bumper pull. The ~1600 for the trailer, plus 400 for the hitch makes it more logical to stay bumperpull

I've picked out a couple trailers I'm interested in.

Brand new 16+2 with a 7k weight limit and brakes on one axle for 1900, plus tax tags and everything.

Custom built trailer by a local guy on the forums. 16 foot with 2 5200lbs axles. Here's the build up thread. He also has fenders, they're just not installed.

He's asking 1800, but I'm thinking i could talk him down to 1600 or so.

I'm going to look at that one here in a little bit. The new one above is over towards charlotte, so that'd be a I'm-driving-to-buy-it kind of trip.

Suggestions?

Your prices are within pennies. I would seriously consider the goose. It will pull better and allow much more flexibilty in terms of balancing your load. Bumper pull would be fine too.

Looks well built. I'd go 5200 lb axles if the price is roughly the same. If one has larger tires, that wins it points too. Personally I like having brakes on both axles.

You may want fenders if you're ever pulling through virginia.

Chances are high that I'll be driving through VA.

Both have fenders, the home built just has not put them on yet. He's on full widths so he was worried about destroying them.

Whatever your rig can pull my jeep best with us what I say, because yours is always too broken to even go to the trails :D

I wouldn't bother with a GN that small. You can easily tow a bumper pull that size and leave the box of the truck open for gear or a slide in a camper.
