Thought some here might dig this too.

I saw a thread on www.ih8mud.com (http://www.ih8mud.com/) on these 5 gallon cans that are supposed to be just like the Sceptor water cans, and pics of the cans seem to confirm this. For comparison sake the Sceptors sold for $25 plus shipping through Quadratec when i bought one... when they were still available.

I just bought four of these. They are available in OD and Beige. It was mentioned that orders over $50 shipped free... but i DID NOT confirm this.

Before someone asks, no i will not be using these for fuel... and i dont recommend that you do.

These are being sold at under $16 per!!! I'll post up my impression once i receive and compare to my Sceptor can. But at that price i was willing to gamble.

What do you need 20 gals of water for?

Showers, dishes, for cooking, etc.

I average about 3 quick showers with 5 gallon. I prefer to clean up before turning in at night. These type can's have a large mouth allowing my pump from the Zodi shower to drop in without transfering water.

Camp usually consists of 3-6 people. Some have water, some dont. I'll also be doing a Utah trip next spring where i may not see a water source for 3-4 days at a time. I start working on a trailer project soon, be easy enough to carry them.

It's comforting to know i have enough water for the rig in the event of a rad hose failure as well.

Maybe i worry to much? There was a local Jeeper years ago who and a bud got lost hiking in the desert, reportedly his bud begged him to put him out of his misery... which he did. Dont know if he's still incarcerated. Relevance?...none. Just popped in my head. :D

Guess I'm just used to baby wipe baths or a damp washcloth.

Or you've just never spent a full week in the dry, arid, 100* desert 8+ hours from any services ;)

Water is one of those things that's just nice not to run out of in the desert.

and you don't see the need to bring 20 gallons of water with you? I spent 6 days last fall, but only 4 days away from services and went through 8 gallons by myself in those 4 days.

Hopefully you never bring anyone (especially a family with kids) with you because people might be get a little thirsty if anything goes wrong. But, that's the price of being super duper hardcore I guess lol.

I'd bring a gal per day per person if I knew there wouldn't be any water just to err on the safe side.

Well, I'm glad you know what a text book teaches you--although that is a minimum not a safe estimate. If you had a family of 4 and were out for 6 days, then that's 24 gallons just for drinking. Why would anyone ever need 20 gallons of water lol. Just cause you personally don't need it, doesn't mean there aren't other people that would.

Now what happens if you need to clean a dish, wash something off (like a really bad wound), lend water to someone, or you get stranded for an extra couple days? Do you think an extra 5-10 gallons of water might be helpful?

Considering it takes all of 8 seconds and 16 dollars to bring extra water, it's really just one of those things not to bring "just enough" of. "Just enough" is how much beer I plan for lol. It's not like we're backpacking and can't afford the extra weight.

Well that didnt take long, i was waiting for it. Someone has these cans listed on ebay with a starting price of 16.50 and 14.95 shipping. One is bid up $20+ shipping for the beige.

These are the same cans.

Yessir! Carefull eyeballing of these cans leaves me ecstatic! Only difference i can find is different marking on the outside. What a deal!

You'll have to excuse me, as i get older i find pleasure in the simplest things. :D

My Scepter can on right, LCI can on left.
