Where do you guys buy flux core wire? I've got a lincoln mig welder and burned through 1 spool in no time.

Anyone got any places for good deals? Should I stick with Lincoln branded wire?

11 lb spool or the baby "spool"? I buy my flux wire at lowe's because they have lincoln and their price is EXCELLENT compared to the highway robbery the welding shop charges for their premium brand flux wire. I can't tell any difference between the two brands.

I'm pretty sure I have the baby spool - it was about 4 inches in diameter. Does lowes sell the big ones?

The Lowe's local to me generally only carries the small (2 lb I believe) spools of flux. They do however, carry fullsize (11lb) spools of solid wire.

ha i harbor freight it up. buy a huge on and then wind the wire on to your smaller spool its cheaper in the long run i think no matter where you buy it from

I have used both the Harbor Freight flux core and the Hobart stuff. I now keep the Harbor Freight crap for when I run out of Hobart and have to finish something. There is a huge difference, at least for me, between HF and Hobart wire. I haven't tried Lincoln flux core. I've seen a lot of the 2 pound spools; Lowes, Home Depot, and other places. Your welder may have even come with just a 1 pound spool to start with.

I assume that is the 2 lb spool. The welder came with an adapter for a larger spool. I just didn't know where to pick some up at.

Here's what the spool looks like:

Lowes had a 10 lb spool for $37. Picked one of those up because as stated above, their 1 lb spool is $9... Pays to buy in bulk.

You can order it from McMaster Carr too, but they're not competitively priced. I don't normally order something like welding wire from them unless it's something I can't find locally (like flux core stainless, which did NOT work well for me).

One of my local home depot's carrires the Lincoln 11lb .035 flux cored. $37. The other one does not so you might call around and see if anyone near you has it. Seems to be shoot and miss as to what they carry.
