Hey guys,

We purchased an 06 grand cherokee limited with the 5.7 hemi, quadradrive II, etc to drive and occassionally tow with.

it has the class IV tow package with the trans cooler and 7 pin, and i'm adding a weight distributing hitch and possibly some bags or helpers.

What brake controllers are you guys using with this setup? i purchased the plug but haven't purchased a controller yet.

thanks!

prodigy... The same company does offer a newer one for a little more. But the prodigy works great and is under 100 bucks from most places now.

I used a Tekonsha. I think it was a "voyager". I liked it better than the drawtite one I had.

i ran whatever autozone had when i towed with my 3/4 ton suburban. I wanted something a little nicer for this rig.

x2 on the prodigy. I have one for my truck and like it cause I often tow differnt loads requiring different settings on the controller. The prodigy just has one dial for adjustement vs the voyager's 2 dials, could bever seem to get those balanced right....

The prodigy also has 3 "boost" settings. I can set the base setting for my trailer empty, push the boost button once and I'm set for trailer w/ medium size tractor, press again and I'm on "B2" good for empty truck with trailer and jeep, "B3" I use when I have camper on truck with trailer/jeep.

Very easy to use unit if you often have varying loads. Voyager works good if you always tow the same load and can set it and then leave it alone.

Ask for the matching harness for your vehicle. Makes hooking up a snap. I bought my prodigy off e-bay and it was included for free. One end plugged into the unit and the other end plugged into a plug under the dash, no splicing or hacking. Plug and play.

Clay, I always understood the boost settings on the Prodigy to just be an initial boost and not carried through the whole thing?

The boost button was designed to allow a more aggressive setting for your trailer brakes and is available in three levels - [ b.I ], [ b.2 ], [ b.3 ]. Each incremental boost setting increases the sensitivity of the Prodigy’s inertial sensor, enhancing the participation of the trailer brakes during a braking event.

There's Tekonsha harness available too - part number 3020-35 or 3020-P-35 (around $15). Makes it completely plug-n-play.
