So if I call your rig a mall crawler does that mean you'll try to follow me?? :flipoff2:

I think I've seen some of your pics on CO4x4, but post some up here too.

i don't think i've posted any pictures myself on CO4x4.

lets go mall crawlin. i promise i'll make it up almost anything, and if i can't i'll get the winch out and drag myself up it.

Hmm, pretty sure I've seen pics of your rig somewhere, thought it was CO4x4, maybe not.

So what is your overall lift height? Do you notice any difference in ride quality, especially in the rear after the lifting? I have the 4" Superlift and it uses drop brackets on the rear - this is the worst drawback I have on my WK and I'm not convinced that rear drop brackets are necessary to maintain ride quality.

getlost4x4
12-02-2008, 12:08 AM
the rear springs i'm using are too stiff. i'll switch them out next year.

over all, i'm happy with the suspension except i would really like coil-over shocks up front. i'm looking into developing some. that way the suspension up front would ride much better, and be ride height adjustable.

with the rear, the upper control arm above the gas tank is really stupid. who thought of that? i'm going to go with a panhard rear suspension arm design using johny joints and longer arms with new brackets. i think it will be a better ride and work better off road.

I bet you could make a helluva expedition rig outta somethin like that, kinda similar to guys runnin fj60's and stuff. Still a little hugenormous for my tastes but to each his own. Nice rig.

I like it. I've been thinking of replacing my DD with one of these. My wife would kill me if I turned another DD like that into toy.

getlost4x4
12-02-2008, 01:05 PM
ours is a DD and toy. it works great as a dual role vehicle. i love being able to just hop in it and go 4 wheeling. we have spent the night in it a few times. its roomy enough to sleep in, and haul all our gear.

Before i go and build a real rear bumper i thought i'd improve on a different design out there.

this should be pretty beefy. its built fron 2"x2"x.25" square tubing. it uses 1" grade 5 bolts for the hinges.

now, its not finished. hopefully tomorrow i'll have it finished.

i still need to get a wheel mounting plate.

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k216/miniyota/0000001020.jpg

hinge. doesn't deflect at all with the tire and jack on.

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k216/miniyota/0000001019.jpg

without the tire in place
http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k216/miniyota/0000001018.jpg

doesn't cover up the rear park sensors. and you can still open the rear gate.

Just curious why the tire rack when you have a roof rack? Seems like the rear view is almost gone. I kinda like the commander look you have. Seems like what Range Rover was supposed to be.

getlost4x4
12-03-2008, 03:16 PM
that commander above is not mine. the one with the roof rack. i was just showing the difference between how far his tire rack sticks the tire our compared to mine.

if i ever did get a roof rack, i would not put the tire up there. my back is bad enough.

alright i redid the swing out part. i like it much better.

i still need to do something for the license plate.

now, please read this!!!

*this is ment to be used as an easy add on. it plugs into the hitch. you can take it off or put in at your will. just pull the pin.

*as such, the rear back up sensors can not be made to work. why, they are too sensitive. i tested multiple ways of mounting everything, and everywhere i tested it set off the sensors.

*back-up camera can be moved out to swing so you can use that.

*the flipper glass works still. no clearance problems.

pictures.

theres just too much crap in the back of these jeeps.

back-up sensors

back-up camera's

on the production version's well move the tire up higher to clear up some room for a receiver hitch. i'll also add some supports to come up from the sub-frame to the tire-carrier.

so far mine is not rocking back and forth. i off-set my hole for the hitch pin a little higher then center. the pin goes in really tight so nothing moves. you can jack the rear of the vehicle up with this as well.

okay some good pictures. i put bedliner on it last night.

Looks great! I forsee applications to numerous other vehicles with it as well.

How about a provision for a shackle/d-ring just behind (towards the rear) the receiver end? That way you still have a solid tow point for recovery and won't need to remove the whole rack assembly. Or, is there another recovery point in the back of the Jeep?

getlost4x4

i am going to add a hitch to it. i just got in a hurry and forgot.

dumb i know. but it should work on most vehicles.

i'm going to use some hood shocks to help open it when its all finished up.

right now i just painted it. i plan on adding carpet to the top to match the rest of the interior. i also built it so i can remove it easily if i need to haul some people in the 3rd row.

a few pictures of the finished product. alittle gangsta style graphics from yours truly.

as for the urban wheeling stuff, i clearly said NOT to do it. if there are miss spellings it was my word program that missed them, and i will check that out. thats why i asked for feed back on it. what, and where did you see them?

3.7L V6- Quadra Trac 1- basically an all wheel drive with electronic brake operated limited slips

4.7L V8-Quadra Trac 2- basically an all wheel drive, W/ center locking 4-low, with electronic brake operated limited slips. NV242 full-time 4x4, 48/52 split in 4 wheel high. 50/50 split locked in 4-low.

5.7L V8 (option for 4.7L V8)-Quadra Drive 2- basically an all wheel drive, W/ center locking 4-low, with electronic brake operated limited slips, and electronically activated limited slips in each axle. NV242 full-time 4x4, 48/52 split in 4 wheel high. 50/50 split locked in 4-low.

Not a fan of the XK's, look like a giant, overgrown, over complicated XJ. And good luck with that sunroof, those XK's leak water like a mofo, watch for water at the front grab handles- at least it should still be under warranty, I've had the headliners out of those things more times than I want to think about right now.... i work for a dealer, and can't be happier that the model will be discontinued soon. Yours is actually the first one I've seen lifted, Hows the aftermrket support for the XK? See more of these with chrome 20's than with M/T's, lol. Keep us posted, interesting build....

getlost4x4

i have not had one problem with my XK. i had a window regulator that was bad, fixed and replaced for free.

i have 50000+ miles on my 2006. no leaky sunroof,

and the fact is they are redesigning the grand cherokee into a car. i think the commander will live on for a few more years, gas is cheap again, and people like room.

i actually sell and build parts for the commander, so after market support is better then it was before.

the commander is really easy to work on. if you think they are hard, try working on a mitsubishi or nissan. my old 2002 mitsubishi diamante had to have the whole intake removed to change the spark plugs. it was a 3 hour job, the timing belt was next to impossible to change without removing the motor, so when it was due to be changed, i changed to the commander.
