I just bought a 90 suburban and come to find out the back axle is about 4" narower than the front. Does anyone know why GM did this? If not I am going to get some spacers to correct it.

the 90's have the IFS right? I don't know why, but its especially apparent on the lifted trucks, the front is like 3" wider on each side, looks funky as shit.

if its ifs, i know ifs requires a positive offset wheel normally to make room for all ifs junk. is the wms different widths or is it the tires?

i also know that with a wider front and more narrow rear end it makes the vehicle tack better in a straight line, for towing and such

Yea this suburban has the solid axle up front. Im gonna be doin lots of pullin, so is buying a 1.5" spacer per side of the rear axle going to be a bad idea? Seems to me it would get rid of some of the body roll that it has a lot of.

Pretty much all 4x4 vehicles are the same way. The rear is narrower then the front so the rear is gripping something the front hasn't already hit. My 250 was ifs put in a 60 out of a 350 and it was still wider in the front. If you are going to do a lot of pulling get some wider rims, they will be offset more and it won't be anywhere as noticeable. That's what i did anyhow, good luck.

How the hell would bushings make the rear axle 4" narrower than the front????

Is the front axle original or was it swapped in by a PO?

front axle along with everything else is just like it came from the factory, stock.

I just put a size larger bfg a/t on it and now it looks..... like there is something missing, prolly just have to get used to it, cuz it sounds like it was done for a reason

I have been told it helps the turning radius

I checked my dads 06 suburban this morning same story rear is narrower, I think ill try some wider rims and see if that'll help, I just happen to have a set.

Dude, making the stance wider isn't going to help with body roll. body roll is called BODY roll because the BODY is moving on the suspension. Unless your some crazy cracked out driver I'd assume your not lifting the inside tires on the corners, if you want to fight body roll look into stiffer shocks and sway bars.

I've owned three full size blazers, adn they all had wider fronts.. The only answer I ever heard was the turning radius, and something about snowplowing that made no sense to me.
