I was hoping to find some FAQ thread that lists stock driveshaft lengths from various vehicles.

Obviously, many of us have modified our vehicles and use driveshafts of lengths other than stock. I figured if we could put together a thread with the lengths of stock vehicles that are a close fit to our custom lengths, then, in a pinch or for a spare, we could grab one out of a junkyard.

Or, if this is not a popular idea, I'd like to know what stock vehicle has a 33" + or - .5" Ujoint to U joint with the slip yoke.

I'm currently using an XJ rear shaft, it is about 3/8" shorter than my stock one was. I believe it was from an automatic with a 242 tcase. 5spd XJs have longer rear shafts.

Here are some pics I took awhile back of stuff kicking around.

This shows the different bolts used to hold the front shaft on the t-case, a socket adapter is shown that allows you to use a wrench to turn a socket to break loose those stubborn 5/16s head bolts that are rounded from using a wrench.

These 3 pics show the difference between between a regular XJ/ZJ slip yoke and a YJ yoke. The YJ yoke is about 3/4" longer and has WAY better articulation.

Sweet. How about different lengths for the ZJ rear driveshafts. I think there are different lengths depending on the transfer case. Right?

I'm not sure, all the ZJs I've worked on so far have had the 249 case. However I have swapped in a 242 and a 231 and used the same rear shaft so they are close.

Yeah, after I put in my 231 my stock shaft worked. I guess, it's because you don't see many 249's behind the 4.0. So, I suppose it would be more correct to assume that the driveshaft lengths may be different depending on the transmission/motor vice the actual transfercase. I'll check next time I go to the yard.

i cant remember the length extended or colapsed but a wj u joint style front shaft works very well in the front of a zj if u are running long arms with the front pushed out for 35's my shaft measures 35" installed and is centered in slip yoke.
