I am making this because Pat doesnt really post much on forums or take pics. I only have a few for now, but I will make sure to take plenty the more we do. Nothing really too custom on this TJ, just lots of purchased parts. Either way, it will be an amazing rig that will be able to handle pretty much anything we throw at it.
The Build is as follows.
Axles
1979 Ford 60 front:
Reid Racing knuckles
5.13 gears
Lockright
Yukon 35 spline inner/outer shafts

1989 14 Bolt:
Lockright
5.13 gears
Disc brakes

Suspension
Clayton double triangluated coil over stretch kit modified for more stretch up front
14" Fox Coil overs
Fox air bumps

Steering
Clayton track bar system
PSC full hydro steering
BTF high steer arms

Armor
Poly performance cage
BTF rear comp corners,tube fenders,sliders,bumpers
cyclone hood louver

Drivetrain
Tom woods shafts
Atlas transfercase

Tires
42" Iroks on 16.5 TR beadlocks

Pulled front axle, cut off all mounts including steeringbox, lower CA mounts and soon to be cut off track bar mount

Shot of the front arms
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa45/zj95maxx/Pats%20TJ%20build/DSCN1334.jpg
we moved the brackets foward about 7 inches to give him a WB of right at about 109"

Front axle getting welded up, the truss/ram mount is Sniperfab works. It is an alright product, alot of modifying and adapting is necessary because the truss did not want to go together as it should, wouldn't buy again.
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa45/zj95maxx/Pats%20TJ%20build/DSCN1335.jpg

close up of snazzy clayton support that really lost ALOT of strength because Clayton really wanted his name on his product, going to be adding some more support to the other side to tie it in to the truss
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa45/zj95maxx/Pats%20TJ%20build/DSCN1336.jpg

Claytons track bar mount, pretty beefy. The trackbar itself is only .120 wall tube. Why? I don't know, the axle side mount is HUGE. The joint it uses is the same size as a control arm joint, def dont think Pat will be breaking that joint.
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa45/zj95maxx/Pats%20TJ%20build/DSCN1341.jpg

the tires
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa45/zj95maxx/Pats%20TJ%20build/DSCN1340.jpg

Still gotta finish welding up the truss, bracing some parts, lining up the ram and welding track bar mount on. Then its on to putting the coil overs in, hooking the hydro up and making sure nothing interfears. Air bumps might or might not work, don't know at this point. We are making good progress. Should get the front near completed soon. We will be working on this for an hour or 2 each day up until thursday when we will have a full day to work on it. Should be able to get the rear started possibly. More pics to come.

Before anyone says anything about the surface rust. it is sanded down and or wire brushed before welding, most of it is painted now anyway.

Looks good man, cant wait to see it when its done. Does pat do much?? ha ha or is it his money and your project, just curious. Also, what are you using to make the tubes fit together so nicely? And i dont know how the hell you can weld in flip flops and sandals, I burn every part of my body when i weld fully clothed.

Not trying to be rude but that thing is ugly. The wheel base is way to long for a normal TJ, maybe if it was a UNLIMITED it would look better. Not saying your work is bad and you guys used alot of good parts just the finished product is a little overkill. And before you guys flame me for giving him shit which I know you will. I have built many rigs and am not just shit talking. My current just finished ride Is a

1963 Willys pick-up, 4-link and coils F/R, 1tons, LT1, Turbo400, 205-203 doubler, Hydro assist, locker up front and a spool in the rear, 4.56 gears on 42in TSL.

Its not your build...everyone builds differently. Its not a "normal tj" so yes the wheelbase is long. If it was an unlimited it would probably be longer.

I always love how people post up comments and defend themselves by saying how much they know and what they've built before anyone ever says anything to them.

Yeah thats the point people build diff shit but keep it clean. I think his zj looked better before the recent change but thats me. You have to build a rig that is going to suit what you need and what you are going to do with it. Sure if they have DD's then that is fine but not once have I heard daily driver or tow rig.

Just looks long as the TJ is short. Also the coils in the rear should have been laid forward a little as the tabs on the cage are not going to let that coil move as the coils droop and compress ? I could be wrong as the pic does not show that in great detail. And as you know a linked suspension gets longer as it goes up and shorter as it drops thus needing the coil to move front to back a little bit. The top of your coil mounts look to be rigid you may need to cut those off and re-mount. From side to side mount to front to back so the coil can swing front to back

A lot of wranglers are built to about that wheelbase. It does look a little goofy sometimes, but it works. What's wrong with having the upper coilover mounted that way? With arms that long the axle won't move that far front to back. Mounting it the other way could potentially limit articlation. The only real reason to mount the COs at an angle like in the pics you posted would be packaging and a potential for more travel at the wheel. Many guys have to angle COs/ airshocks forward or back on wranglers to clear the top of the tires during articulation, but it's not always necessary with full width axles. As long as the tires clear the COs throughout the articulation there shouldn't be any problem with the way it's set up.

Edit: Not trying to be an asshole, even though that is a sweet TJ, did you really have to post all 3 those pics in somebody else's build thread? You might also want to tell the guy that built the buggy that he mounted the coilovers wrong...

Not the wrong way just better ways to do it, for more travel. I belive if you read my post it was a suggestion and also stated how I may be wrong. If his set-up works then great run it. But from the pics it looks as it may bind limiting the jeeps potential

And as far as the coils being mounted wrong in the pics I posted ? thats funny. The TJ has external bypass KINGS on it so they had to be mounted that way and the TACOMA is a XRRA race truck. The set-up on both is so plush and works so well that you could drive off your house and flex like mad

Sorry, I was sarcastically mocking you as the buggy's coilovers are mounted in a similar orientation to the ones on Pat's TJ that you said should be done differently. The bearings in the end of the shocks should allow for more than enough movement front to back with the length of the control arms, as the axles won't move forward/ backward more than a couple inches, where the axle will articulate a lot more than that. So :flipoff2:

Sorry for the highjack, max. Sweet looking build.

I see what you're saying here, the way the upper tabs are mounted to the cage will pevent the CO from being able to compensate with the longarms as the suspension articulates, possibly causing a binding issue. Something to keep an eye on down the road after it's done and has had a chance out on the trail, may not be a problem, but it could be. Seems it would be an easy fix- cut tabs, turn 90 degrees, and locte further forward on same cage tube, and turn the lower tabs so they face the same direction(may have done this already, didn't see any pics) awesome build though, you guys are breezing through this one!! Something is wrong here. Both the front and the rear driveshafts do not fit. When attaching the cv part of the driveshaft to the atlas, the threads do not line up, we ordered the driveshafts for 1350 ends because thats what was written on the atlas. This is a picture of the yolk when one side is lined up, this is how off the other side is. Could it be that the atlas is 1410? He didn't order 1410's...or..I dont know, any advice? we are going to take the driveshafts to a local place to see if they can replace the socket yolks on the driveshafts to fit...

Console is slowly coming to completion. It needs some cleaning up, switch panel, and a little love to make it look really good in person(looks a lot better in the pics)
The console is made completely by Pat(the owner) and it has turned out pretty nicely.

The atlas shifters need quite a bit of adjusting. I can only seem to get Rear-4Hi to shift correctly. Might get it trailered to a shop to finish the linkage. Other than that, Pat is trailer hunting right now, looking at a 21' long and 8' wide deck over 18' flat and 3'dovetail trailer, but haven't decided yet. Wrangler and the ZJ will get a shakedown run together very shortly.

So...will it fit 2 Jeeps is the question?

Even if it could...I wouldn't think the titan could pull it. I'd almost bet that it'll need load bars with Maxx's jeep on it. It should be fine with Pat's but as far as Maxx would have to pull up to pull the ramps up...it'll probably squat the back of the titan quite a bit. I used to pull with a trailer almost just like that one.

I'd love to. But I don't know if I'd be comfortable with my current tow rig all the way out there. Hope to trade my R32 in for a new tow rig this year...then sell my current tow slut.

Back to Maxx and Pat, It'd be cool if they did go out to Moab. But we have a hard enough time getting them to wheel on the east coast! lol :)

1. Unless you have a pair of 2000lb carbon fiber buggies or little barbie jeeps, a Titan can't safely haul more than one rig around. I pull with one and it does well, but two rigs would create way too much tongue weight on the rear springs and titan 44.

damn you need to back that jeep up some, you got to much tounge weight. you can tell because of the front axel tires are squished down further then the back. you should load the jeep with the rear towards the truck so all the weight of the motor is over the axels.

x3. Looks like there is a couple feet to back up the TJ. I wouldn't be surprised if backing it up almost to the top of the dovetail levels it out quite a bit. When I load my ZJ, the rear tire is behind the rear tire of the trailer -- not lined up with it -- and the tongue weight is almost perfect. My Dodge looks to sit level once the tongue weight is perfect. Get the tongue weight dialed in and the Titan should have no problem...

Sudz

found this technique on several trailer websites

example: http://www.curtmfg.com/index.cfm?event=pageview&contentpieceid=1347

i leveled my trailer – i located my heep on the trailer where it appeared to be evenly balanced - 3/4 tank of gas in heep - loaded with all my trail gear - minus the trailer tie down straps

formula = W * a / L

a = 1 (1 foot) - where trailer tongue is resting on the board (see photo)

L = distance between pipes (i used 48" / 4 feet)

scale reads 177lbs X 4 = 708# tongue weight – you can get the trailer weight from the maufacturer

i weighted my heep on a truck scale:

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c364/-Sudz/trailer_tounge/100_6516.jpg

the safe recommended tongue weight percentage is 10% to 15% of the gross trailer weight (trailer loaded) – my trailer tongue weight is approx 11%

here’s my driveway photos

x4...and if it still sags a bit or tends to "bounce" while towing it, throw on some air shocks ~$70 for a pair and all of the air lines from Summit Racing. I put some on my truck for towing and it was amazing how much it helped out. I run the shocks at 130psi for towing and 30psi just driving around.

Here is a little trick I learned once I started towing.

When you think you got the tongue weight right, drive it around. If the ride feels really bouncy, you probably have too much tongue weight. Get it up to 40, if you feel the trailer swaying or pushing the truck, you don't have enough tongue weight. Let off of the gas, if you feel the trailer pushing the truck, you don't have enough tongue weight. Repeat this in 10 mph increments until you get up to highway speeds. If you don't feel the trailer swaying or pushing you and the ride isn't overly bouncy, your tongue weight should be good.

If you feel the trailer swaying really bad or pushing the truck to where you don't have control, hit the ebrake on the trailer and the gas on the truck. This should straighten you out quickly. Then slow down and get off the road to fix the tongue weight.

Good luck.

Picked up from exhaust shop. It turned out great! Only ONE pipe that MIGHT get hit, if it does, it will be taken back and re routed in front of oil pan. Nothing hits, or comes in contact with anything, so if you think you see something that looks like it would interfere, the picture is just deceiving you.

Nice to see it on the trails, though! Why no ZJ?
