how do you guys have your tubing benders mounted. when i was in my other shop i just drilled holes int he slab and put in anchors in. i dont have enough room in the shop i am in now so i was planning on mounting it outside.

the hole is about 18" wide 22" long and about 14" deep. i was going to drive t post down in the ground at at angle to help hold it in place. do ya'll think that will be enough? this thing is all ass powered with a 6' bar no hydro. it will be right on the corner of the slab for my shop so i think this should keep it from turning.

Weld it to some steel so that you can put it in the receiver hitch of your truck. Then strap it down to a couple trees in two directions to stabilize it. That way you can lend it out to your friends to use as well. Just ask Cam. :D Seriously though it works pretty good. I’ve used two benders this way.

So, concrete weighs about 150 lbs per cu ft with rebar. Your hole of concrete without rebar is less than about 477lbs. I'll bet you could start to loosen that up wiht a lot of bending depending on you soil conditons. So driving a couple post or rebar into the ground at angles would help a lot to keep it in place. Is it pretty hard soils or soft? I would suggest rebar because it woudl be easier to drive into the ground and is designed to be in concrete. I would also consider going deeper with your hole. Remember you had the whole slab before acting as your anchor. It might have only been a 6" slab but what was the square foot of it.

the ground up here is all chert(spelling) rock. it is packed pretty tight. it is hell to even get grass to grow. i plan to use some wire to make it stronger. i figured the t post would hold in the concrete a little better and i dont think i could drive rebar in the ground very far without bending it . i thought it would also help that it was going to connect to the shop slap. i figured that would keep it from wanting to twist as much.

Before I made my bender hitch mounted, I poured a slab and sank the bender into it.. It worked well but we needed to move the bender eventually. I think we used 10+ of the Big bags of concrete and let it cure for about 3 weeks before pulling on it. The bender still deflected and the stand twisted some, even being 4x4 .250 wall... There are a lot of forces acting on these things..

I mounted my bender to my trailer. I just welded up some support brakets off the front edge of the deck. Then I can stand on the platform for most of the bending. Not ideal but it worked before I put in the garage floor.

shit my hole is about 1 foot deep and about 2 feet wide all around, we put about 4 bags of quickrete in it, made a template, set the screws with anchors in the wet cement, concrete dried and held the screws in. Put bender on the next day, tightened the anchor bolts. no rebar or anything, i use all man power to pull my bender and it hasnt budged.

i was going to use 1/2 allthread so i could unbolt the stand when i needed to.

so zj95 have you used that since you mounted it? did it not twist the whole thing?

edit: sorry i didn't read your whole post.

Calling that "man" power is a bit of a strech isn't it Maxx?? :flipoff2:

made the hole a little bigger 3' x 3' about 16" deep. drove one t post in and i am going to drive 4 more short pieces in (about 8 to 10 ")
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v85/speedmontzj/house049.jpg.

i welded this contraption to the allthread so it would be easier to hold it in the right spot and maybe it will make it harder to pull out. the 4 small t pot will be drove in the ground and this will be welded to them.

this thing better not ever move once i get it in the ground.

okay got the tubing bender set in place last night about 11:30 . i bought 8 80lbs bags thinking it would taek about 5 for the bender and i could use the other 3 somwhere else. i used all 8 and still did not have enough. that hole was a lot bigger than i thought. i guess i should have tied a 2x4 to my back before jumping in that one.

i was going to drive some more t post in the ground but i said fawk it.

and a pic from this morning. i think i will buy 3 more bags to pour on top of that just to fill the hole up. that will make 880 pounds of quikcrete in that hole.

Looks like that hole is going to be solid. When I mounted mine that way, I welded the stand to a 15" steel wheel and submerged the wheel in the concrete. But judging by your mounting design, you want to have it removable. It seems like you would want to at least have the bottom of the stand flat against the top of the slab, so you aren't just torquing just on those rods. Or you could always tighten the nuts down farther and cut off the excess rod.

yeah i said at first i would just tighten the nuts down more to make it sit where the slap is at now. i think i will buy 3 or 4 more bags of quikcrete and pour on top of the slab that is there now so it will sit where it is at now without having top lower it. i know the new pour will not really bond 2 the old but i left some wire and rebar sticking up that i put in the first pour that will hold the 2 together.

edit: i do want mine removable because it is sitting right beside my shop door. i also want to be able to take my stand with me if i move for this new job.

added 3 more bags this morning for a total of 11. myabe this thing will stay put. i think i will try to do some bending this weekend and see how she holds up.

I'd be sure that the concrete is curing good before you put any weight on it. If you move it at all before it cures you could have trouble later. Just my 2 cents.

i let it cure for about a day and a half before i did some bending. so far it has help up fine. that stuff sets up quick.

If it wasn't against the pad you could still move it with the leverage of the 6' bar but you will be fine with it anchored against the other slab.......However I think the other guys stand alone will work loose......:o
