View Full Version : Bearing packer

After manually packing trailer bearings the past few years, I'm started to seriously think about getting one of those bearing packer things. I went to O'rielly's the other day and they had 2 different kinds. One looked like 2 funnels stacked on each other and you hooked a grease gun to it to put the grease in it. It was $15 or so. The other one looked like a cup that you sat the bearing in, and when you pushed down on the cup, the grease came up through the races. It was about $30 or so. Anybody got experience with either of these? I'm tempted to get the more expensive kind, but do either evenly distribute the grease well? I'd like to cut down on the mess from doing it by hand.
Thanks for your time.

I use the second kind at work to do motorcycle wheel bearings.... Its really simple, but they can be a pain to pull out with greasy fingers sometimes

I use my hands. Quick, cheap and don't have a greasy tool to cleanup afterwards.

i have both... i use the secound one the most.. no need to clean, less mess.

the grease gun type is good for the tool box.

I set mine on the floor and step on it.

I have the funnel type. Used it all the time then had to do it manually when I was in tech school. Have never used the tool since. I wear gloves all the time and just throw them out when finished packing and grab new ones. I find its quicker and wastes less grease doing manually.
