While that axle is truly rare and has a 30% stronger R&P than a LP d44, it still suffers the same issues people complain about with a Rubi d44. Those being that it shares the same outers as a d30.

What would be great is to take this axle and put some "true" d44 inner C's on it so you could run d44 outers (non unit bearing stuff with bigger brakes). You'd have to get custom inner axles made, but you'd have to buy them anyway.

Good luck on the auction, I'm sure some one will scoop it up!

If you wanted to do that, a MUCH cheaper solution would be to get an old Ford HP44, and shorten it to use waggy shafts. That way you have a true D44HP, no need for custom shafts, and no unit bearings. You can get T&T's D44 kit (if I recall $389 for full truss with all stock brackets), that saves the bulk of the effort for you in terms of bracketry. Just be prepared to buy new wheels, 'cause there's no way the hub of a 44 is going to fit into the hole in the center of a 5X4.5 wheel, (no way to use spacers/adapters).

I think the beauty of this South American axle is that you can have a much stronger 44HP front axle and still keep the stock wheel bolt pattern, (even though you retain the crappy unit bearings!) Someone on eBay asked if this was the same as a Rubi 44 but HP, and he answered no, but it sure looks like an HP version of a Rubi 44 to me. I'd bet it goes for north of $1500.

I'm sure the reserve is more than $1500.

They aren't too common, but they are out there. I have seen a few, as well as a few iron D44 rears too.
