Then how about fixing it.
This a simple little mod but from people I've talked with it seems no once else thought of it.
Anyhow, in the summer I really have my doors on. Nice weather, it's a Jeep, my A/C doesn't work. The bad thing is once you take the doors off you loose your speakers, I don't know about anyone else here but I've gotta have some tunes.
So go out and buy some 5 1/4" speakers. I picked up some 120w Panasonic speakers (part# CJ-A1323U, I had these sitting around from my old ZJ).
Then go to your ZJ and remove the kick panels.
Lay the speaker on top and trace it out with a marker (or use the speaker template if the speakers came with one).

Then drill a pilot hole so you can cut the holes out.

After that use a cutting device of your choice and zip the holes out (I used a Rotozip).

Then place the trim ring and speaker into the hole you cut and use the ring as a template for drilling pilot holes to mount the speaker (or use self tappers).

Screw everything down, slap the grills on and your done.

I won't get into wiring because that's easy enough to figure out and most cd players have different colors for the wires (my Pioneer might not be the same as someones Sony). I'll note that I left my door speakers connected in the old ZJ it sounded ok. The door speakers in the new one will be disconnected because they are fired and sound like shit.
Here's a final install (picture from my old ZJ).

Enjoy!
Hope it helps a few people out.
