im not shure i am gona make it. as of now, i think the engine will be in the jeep at about mid april. then i have a 3K mile break in period of not being heavy on the gas, so no off-roading for me for that time.

AgitatedPancake

4 months, 3k miles aint no thang.

Exactly what I was thinking you can make 3k in a few month no problem.

are their any intermediate trials on the rubicon? I dont want to bust up my daily driver yet.

What side of the lake does it enter and/or exit?

The Rubicon isnt trailS. The rubicon is ONE trail. There arent different trails to go on. There are a couple bypasses, but some of those are pretty difficult as well. It all happens on the west side of the lake

cool, i learn something new everyday.

So taking the easiest route possible what are the chances of coming out of the rubicon realtively untouched with a WJ like mine. I dont care much about the front & rear bumbers. But I'm not ready for a boulder to the quater panel or a flop.

AgitatedPancake
03-31-2008, 09:37 PM
It's all based on driver skill. I would recommend ATLEAST 33"s and being locked up on atleast one axle. Even then, no guarantees.

Your bumpers will catch hell, so will you gas tank skid. Locker a must... better upgrade the front shafts if you have the funds !

Bring lots of water !

AgitatedPancake
04-01-2008, 01:58 AM
I would recommend a spare set of front shafts ($100-150), but alloys are $$$$ for WJ's, like 800 for a pair IIRC.

Like Jerod said, my rear bumper got THRASHED and my gas tank skid isnt too happy, but I have the flimsy 1/16" one, not the 3/16" they put on the overlands.

There are 2 bed and breakfest's and 1Hotel, 1motel in Georgetown. There are a couple more motels in Placerville. I went to school in Georgetown when I was a kid, my dad lives up there.

I don't know, 20 miles? The trail takes 2 days to complete, in which time you WILL be camping.

rtingdds
04-27-2008, 03:42 AM
Camping with public restroom or bathroom type of camping or bring your own water & crap in the grass kind of camping?

AgitatedPancake
04-27-2008, 09:37 PM
basically...the campgrounds = the flattest spot you can find to pitch a tent on the side of the trail. there are no structures at all out there.

The PETT works great, its the only way I can get my wife to go.

I am going on vacation and will be back the first week of Aug. when I will post more info.
Please start thinking about going or not. I would like to get a list together of how is in.
Min. of 4 1/2" lift, 33" tires, rear locker, winch, tools and extra parts.
Don't forget camping gear (tent, sleeping bag and warm clothes) food & water (and beer) for a least 3 days.

We will meet Fri. morning around 800am at the loon lake overspill and will try to make it to Rubicon Springs (2/3 of the way through).
Sat. Camping/swimming at Rubicon Springs.
Sun. leave between 1000-1200 and drive out, coming out at Lake Tahoe around 3pm.

Thanks and hope to see ya on the trail,
Ron

need some help here. Since this is my first real camping, I have a lot of questions.
1. Is 10'x10' tent good for 2 people & a small dog?
2. What are your shower suggestions & recommendations at Rubicon ( bath simply in the river or else?)
3. What kind on portable potty should I get for my wife? do I set it up in the bushes??
4. is it cold at night by the river?

4. is it cold at night by the river?

I'm not going, but I'll answer your questions if no one minds.

1. Yes
2. Dunk in the river. I went with some friends the weekend before the 4th of July and the water really wasn't that cold. There are no showers there that I know of so your only other option would be to pack one of those black shower bag things.
3. PETT for the trail. You can also buy an "outhouse" type tent that is around 3' x 3' and tall enough to stand in to house your potty for some privacy. Keep in mind, there are port-a-potties and outhouses at Rubicon Springs, but they look and smell like something out of a horror movie.
4. When we went, it wasn't too bad. Get a bag rated to 20 degrees, bring an extra blanket and you should be fine.
5. You didn't ask, but an air mattress or thick foam pad to sleep on is critical for 1st time campers. I prefer a 2" or 3" foam pad since it doesn't deflate and it insulates better beneath you. If you bring an inflatable mattress, don't forget the pump and patches just in case.
6. One more thing, I like to use frozen water bottles in my cooler since ice will melt and create a mess in the jeep when going up or down steep grades. You can buy gel packs that you freeze and throw in there, but you can't drink them (I haven't tried anyway) so they only serve one purpose while the bottles keep your food cold and you can drink them.
7. I lied, this is the last one. Get a clear plastic tote from wal-mart to keep your food in. It will keep everything organized and protected from getting crushed by your firewood and whatever else is packed around it.

I'm a maybe right now, I'm supposed to be running a trail (undecided; fordyce con or barret) this weekend, if the jeep makes it out alive i should be able to go but the carnage from this last trip kept me down for a long time so we will see.

Hello,

I am Very New to this forum and am trying to fit a Rubicon trip in before I go back to school in October. I know it is pretty late notice, but i just got back from Moab and saw this trip on the Pirate Rubicon calendar. I have a 2000 Jeep TJ. About the only thing stock on it is parts of the body and the engine, got to love the old inline six. I had shaffers help me out with the work and i have been wanting to test it out on rubicon ever since it got out of the shop about a year ago. Dana 60s, coils, 37" I think it should go through alright. Is it to late to join the trip? I live in Reno so the drive is no big deal. I also have a Nikon D200 and would be happy to take photos of everybody's rigs. Wasn't sure if this was an XJ specific run, but i thought i would try anyways. Sorry for the late reply.

Here is my jeep if you want to check it out.
