I saw a couple of other post about off road trailers and thought I would post mine. The tent is mounted on the top with the cover on it. I also have an Engle 45 fridge only draws 1 amp. Battery with solar panel, stove and all kinds of other goodies. Has air bag suspension with independent trailing arms so there is no axle to worry about dragging on the rocks. It only weights about 800 pounds and it will go any where my jeep will go. Later...Clint

GPS mapping of off road trails in CA, NV, AZ for the BLM, National and State Forest service. My Jeep gets more off road use than on road for dang sure. I am talking 1000s of miles in a couple of months. I get to see some VERY remote areas and I carry tons of spare parts being out in the middle of nowhere. Get to see some very cool trails, very cool areas, and tons of very cool animals. The real problem I see in a lot of areas close to large cities is the urban dumping. Very bad thing and of course all off roaders get blamed for it. Later...Clint

Here is one more of the trailer.

So do the people that you work for pay for your trailer and spare parts incase you break out there on the trail? If so thats awsome and I want your job.

The trailer is mine. I bought it a few years back from Adventure Trailers http://www.adventuretrailers.com Very cool off road / camping trailers for dang sure. It is a true Off Road trailer.

I get a day rate for my work...Yea its a lot of fun but a lot of work for dang sure. 20 days a month takes it's toll on parts and even your body. We start at sunup and go till sundown so it makes for a very long day. Winter and summer. You really have to be up on GPS systems, mapping and finding your way around in the middle of nowhere. I get a map of an area of about 50 square miles and then cover all that area in it. Lot of ground to cover. Later...Clint

Yea...broken, rescued, and stuck as well. You just have to deal with it. We work in teams and usually you have another crew close enough to use ham radio. CB would just not be a good option. Like I said I carry all kinds of spare parts... Hub bearings was a real problem but I have now done the Warn Hub Conversion so that will not be a problem any more.

I have done all kinds of trail fixes and had to stack rocks, dig out and all kinds of cool stuff like that. Whats really funny is how many folks we have rescued out on the trail that were out and not set up at all. Guys with flats and no lug wrench. Other folks not with our crew stuck out by themselves. On and on...And then the real big one...Folks out in the middle of the desert and have run out of water. We carry tons of water. But again I get to see some very cool stuff. Maybe I can start posting a few pictures from out on the trail but did not know if anyone might have an interest or not. Later...Clint

Clint;

What a great job! I'm sure we'd all like to find out more about your efforts. Not to mention some tips for unspoiled places to check out (and wheel) that are not so widely known. It's great to have someone with your experience contributing to this forum.

Wow...those trailers are awesome - super pricey though. I quoted one out using their excel spreadsheet and was approaching 12 grand!

Too cool. Would love to see more pics.

Yea, it is a lot of money but I've seen some people spend a lot more, then again I've seen people spend less on them. Mine is a Chaser model with the base price starting around 3400.00. The price can go up from there, it all depends on the options you choose. It's a great way to go for a quality dependable off-road trailer. I wheel my jeep and trailer about 5 times a year in Moab plus all the other work I do. The jeep and trailer have held up extremely well for all the hard-core off-road miles I do. I haven't found any place yet that my jeep won't go or my trailer won't follow. The Rubicon trail is a great place to go with my jeep and trailer. Later...Clint.

What kind of ham setup do you use out there. I am one myself KG4QEW

Also.. please tell me how you got that job. I'm in college for a business degree but after school there is no way I am sitting behind a desk.

I use what is called a Lock and Roll hitch. Rotates 360 and pivots full travel. It does not have a loose connection like a pintle hook. Works great.
I am running a modded Yaesu 8800 and a hand held Yaesu 7X. They both work great but the 8800 has great long range. Later...Clint KE7JLP

I saw a couple of other post about off road trailers and thought I would post mine. The tent is mounted on the top with the cover on it. I also have an Engle 45 fridge only draws 1 amp. Battery with solar panel, stove and all kinds of other goodies. . . .

I am interested in your solar system. What panel(s) do you use, amps/day, mounting system, etc.? Battery size/capacity? I have an ARB fridge in my offroad trailer (made by Engle, same as Engle 45) and would like to add solar so that I can extend the number of days of fridge, light and 12v hot shower usage between battery charges by tow rig alternator and/or shore power.

I have also been thinking about adding a telescoping mast for a 70cm/2m antenna so that my trailer can serve as a ham shack/base camp repeater for jeep club runs. Solar would make it a self contained system.
