OK guys, here's the Grand Cherokee version of Ask This Old House's "What's This Tool For?"

I bought this on eBay (only $26, so it's not a huge loss if it's useless!)

It's a Milller tool kit sold only to dealerships for a Dana aluminum axle, (I presume that can only be the D44HD found in Grands) . My question is, what are all these gizmos for?

Worthless junk for a worthless axle probably.

Good TV show.

Looks like maybe a kit for setting pinion depth...

That's awesome... I feel like much less of a dork knowing i'm not the only one who buys tools not knowing what they're for. If nothing else it at least looks like you got a bunch of really nice press pieces to hang on a peg-board next to a hydraulic press.

Some of the parts look like what I use sometimes for knocking in axle seals and bearing races.

Actually I just found a bonafide use for one of them yesterday. The one in in the middle of the right column (as pictured), was EXACTLY the perfect size to press the new bearing in for the front shaft of the 242 I'm rebuilding.

I do have some bushing drift tools already, but none this big....so even if I can't figure out how they relate to the 44a, they will perhaps see use elsewhere. In a pinch, I've used large sockets to press things in, but I don't have more than a few odd sizes in the 3" range.

fyi, Vipers & Vettes use an independent version of the HD44...
