easy enough to install but in conjuction with the block heater would mean that i have two plugs. it is 110v and 900w. good or bad idea to combine the plugs from the interior heater and the block heater?

if it matters its only on for an hour or so before i goto work/school early mornings (its on a timer)

Just wire up a junction block. That is how our trucks are setup. Had a trans heaters, oil pan heater, block heater, 2 battery heaters run all to 1 plug.

Could just go to Zellers and get a regular space heater for like $20 and use that in the truck too.

Remote start?? That's what I do with my truck. Block heater on a timer, then start the truck as I'm getting ready to leave. Truck runs for a few minutes, heats up the cab, and I'm off. Also gives you the ability to warm up the vehicle ahead of time in a situation where you can't plug in.

My Dodge has to run for a good 15-20 mins to have the cab reasonably warmed. If I'd bump up the idle to like 1200 or so though it warms up better.

Even if you have the block heater plugged in? And are we talking Alaska temps or normal temps here? LOL

yeah it takes 20 or so minutes some times to heat up the inside, my radio doesnt work for the first 10 minutes, lol

we are talking fucking cold, think -40 to -50 before the wind chill

with the block heater in during normal months (i tired it once just to see) i get about 1/4 on the oil temp gauge. in the cold i get nothing and it still takes 10 minutes to heat up and be ready to drive

Idaho temps. Diesels are pretty cold blooded. Block heater makes it worse actually since the truck won't kick up to high idle or 3 cylinder idle since the coolant temp it too high... but it's not high enough to really warm anything inside.

In Alaska I would just fire up my work truck when I got into work and if I was lucky the windshield would be half defrosted when I went out an hr or two later.
