Has anybody added an auxiliary input to thier stock radio? I have been trying to add an input to my 97 Grands stock radio with not much luck so far. I was trying to splice into the tape player part of the radio and have only got a slight hum, then it pauses my mp3 player. Any suggestions?

Buy an aftermarket deck? I bought a cheapie Pioneer for my ZJ a couple months ago for under $100 that has an AUX in right on the front.

If I end up breaking my radio trying, I will. I did no know that they were that cheep. It has been a long time since I have looked at radios.

Depends on the type of radio you buy

You can get some cheap no name type ones for $100 or so

The better ones cost more, so it depends on what its for. A trail rig? The cheap ones are good enough for tunes while wheeling. If its a DD, you may want something better, so you will need to spend some more money.

I have a Kenwood deck I bought 2 years ago that cost around $200-$250. I'm not sure I want to swap it in or not, I still want to be able to use the steering wheel controls

Why not just get one of those things that goes into the tape deck and plugs into the headphone output on the mp3 player. Those things can't cost more than 3 dollars.

Hey Nateman,
Last month I bought a Sony CDXGT420IP (http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sony-In-Dash-Player-CDXGT420IP/sem/rpsm/oid/190705/catOid/-13089/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do) from Circuit City for $100 (on sale) and it works great. I'm really impressed with the features I got for $100.
It has an iPod cable built in that lets me control the iPod from the stereo or remote control. It's also long enough that I can put the iPod in the glove box out of sight.
It also has a front aux input for my Sirius unit (or any other audio device like my new Zune!).
If you have a subwoofer, it has a selectable pre-out as well.
Not bad for an entry level $100 unit. :D

Installation is really simple, but I've changed my stereo out 4 times now. If I remember correctly, CC usually has free install for stereos over $99.

Good luck!

Dan thanks. If I can't get my stock radio to do what I want it to, I will look for that sony unit.

Scroll down to the Chrysler section. Might be something in there.

I used one of these on an old car I had.
