kinda scary they got no pics of one installed.x2 if it is not a habeck hood then it could be one of the same quality as the UShoods.com or whatever they are called. I have heard from someone who got one on of those "other guy" hoods JU and it required more time and money to trim to fit and repair since the glass is too thin to begin with...

That design is stolen. It is a Hambeck design.

I talked to Joe( Old Co-owner of Hambeck Customs) about it a couple of months ago. I don't know what the present owners of Hambeck Customs plans to do about it though.

They must have found a Hambeck hood & made a mold from it. It's also probably made in Mexico since it's so cheap. There is no way anyone in the US could make one for that price. It's also probably sprayed glass, not hand layed.

FYI: Joe Martins & Ed Hambeck no longer own Hambeck Customs. It is now owned by Malibue Designs. Also Joe said hese hoods are not autherized by M. D. either just in case that crossed your minds.( update, MD is now out of buisiness too.)

Good luck on the purchase. It is a vety iffy buy but I hope it is better than a UShoods hood. I hope they at least enbeded the steel plates for the hinges.

$230 for a hood is cheap?

And here I was thinking a person would have to be crazy to spend that kind of money on a hood!

i dont know man i will hae to see it, i think the cowl scoop is too wide. if thet redesigned the hood, and made it like a regular size cowl scoop it would be cool, but personally i dont like the carbon fiber one on that one zj.. im goikng to try to do something with like 2 scoops, like a transam or something

I got the hood last night and did manage to get it installed but it was late and I didnt have my camera, I will get some pics up later today.
It is first of aLL a CHEEP Hood! So I wasnt expecting to much but my first impressisions are prety good for the price. it is very light!! and I had to take the hood springs off they are just to strong for this very light hood. Not sure what I will be doing to solv this as it was unexpected, prob just put a prop rod on it. The finish on the hood seems very good compared to some other fiberglass hoods I have used in the past, it will need som finish work mostly arounf the vents.
The Cowl is open and has a alum mesh so it should let lots of air move out of the hot engine compartment which is what I need the most!! as are the 5.9 looking side vents,
Driveing it home it will take some getting used to as it does stick up there quite a bit.

Did u need a hood in the first place? I guess the more i look at it, the more i like the larger scoop, kinda makes it look beefy. Really curious to see it on the car to see what it looks like. But yeah i guess for the money, and the loss in all that weight i dont think ya went wrong.

Wow, I'm impressed that they also have the factory bracing like Hambecks.

Can you tell if it's sprayed glass or not?

Did they not put in the steel plates for the mounting points.

I have no problems with my springs. Hambeck did have to put real long plates in to deal with it though.

One thing to watch for. I can't tell from the photos. How did they attach the screens? If they used something like hot glue the heat from the motor will melt it enough for them to drop. Also, you might think about trying to come up with some sort of drip pans for the vents.

Hambeck made their's from vacume formed plastic. I can take a photo of mine to give you an idea.

It looks to be sprayed.
It does have steel plates for all the bolts.

Just be carefull then when you finish it for painting. I read where someone with a ushoods cowl hood put their hand through the hood when sanding it. It was that thin. Hopefully yours is thicker.

I'm glad someone tested out those cowl hoods. I was wondering who would be the first to test them out. Definitely fab up some drip trays and you should try heating up the springs to soften the tension. You may get away without the hood prop. close that hood with even pressure from your fingertips to keep from cracking soft glass. and dont overtighten the hood bolts as they may crack the hood on the top where the factory bolts may bottom out.

I really like the look of Cowl's, especially on Chevy trucks. But if you have to use the slightest bit of care closing that hood, I don't think it is fit for much off-road use. Just my opinion, the last thing I want to worry about while wheeling is my hood.

Well whats the worst thing a week hood could do to you while wheeling??
Have you ever seen the hoods That the Baja trucks use?/
They are very thin lift off hoods held in place by "Zuse' spelling? fasterners.
This hood is not that week and closeing and latching it is not a problem it seems quite beefy around the latch.
The only problem has been so far is useing the factory Springs and grabbing the end of the hood to close it.
Not a big deal in my book for a $230.00 hood.
I just made a deal with a friend of mine to paint my whole jeep so I will run this hood for a while and let you all know how it holds up.
If you want an off the shelf show hood that can use the factory springs I susgest you go whith the $1200.00 hood.

off road the frame will flex and can cause the hood to crack

the baja hoods are fastened loosly, like you mention, so they can shift if the frame flexes
