because of how my tool storage is, an air tank is a little out of the question..my friend has a milwaukee one of these and it VERY easily took spindle nuts off, lugs, steering bolts..with no effort..so I feel they are very powerful, but what is you guys opinions on these..i would prob get this one

I also have a milwaukee, and also have no room for a compressor. Great tool, I say go for it dewalt are good tools. the only thing an air gun has over electric is size. They are bulky.
Air impact is faster, more powerful and quiter. But since you don't have air, the electric ones aren't too bad.

Air is better, that's not an argument, it's a fact. That said if you dont' have air or have room for air, the electrics are a great option.

I have a dewalt impact gun about the same as that one a little older, no complaints.

I agree with electrical being alright if you don't have an air compressor, I don't have one either seeing that my 'garage' is a 10'x20' storage unit. I have the Milwaukee one though and it works great. Most of my dad's power tools are DeWalt and I'll even sometimes wait for a project just to use them, great stuff.

Those walmart Stanley impacts are pretty cheap huh? I picked up a few sets for myself.

i have used a few different types and in general they are great to use. Like any impact they can break stuff though.

I've got the Harbor Freight electric impact. Its got enough grunt to get the 32mm spindle nuts off the front axle, but its definetly not equal to a quality air impact gun. Great for taking off/putting on lug nuts.

even though I love how the impact set skips the 20mm socket:mad:..18..19..21...:(
I have been turning wrenches for about 15 years and I don't think I have every used impact sockets with an impact gun. Only ones that have broken were China Freight.
My impact gun is only 650 or 700 ft/lbs so it's nothing big, but I've done the same with my Dad's stuff... he's got a few IR guns that are good for ~1000 ft/lbs.
As for the room for an air compressor.. My "shop" is only 12x24. I have plenty of room for all my shit. I have a cement pad outside I work on the rigs since the door to the shop is only like 7x6.5

I have been turning wrenches for about 15 years and I don't think I have every used impact sockets with an impact gun. I've broken a few China Freight sockets, but they just crack and spin on the bolts.
Hell I even use a regular U-joint with the impact too. Just got to be careful that the socket doesn't come off the bolt and then you have socket shooting off U-Joint at 200mph
yeah me too, but for $36 better to be safe than sorry

honestly the habor freight IMPACTS can hold up to some stuff. Ive been running nothing but the impacts for 2 years and haven't had one problem with them. Hell for the price I could loose the whole set and buy another one and still be less then a small set of craftsmen. Now the thinner harbor freight crap usally breaks when you put a breaker bar to it.

Weird that you dont break sockets, I break normal sockets on the regular (snap on/craftsman/stanley). I have a drawer dedicated to them, to replace someday when I need one. They just split and spin using a breaker bar or impact. Only impact stuff that I've broken are 1/2-3/8" adapters.

You don't need a huge compressor for most air tools either. I've been using my little DeWalt D55155 compressor to run my impact guns until I get into another house and can hook up my IR CSS3L3 compressor. I can't bead blast or paint with it, but it's fine with my IR TG and Ti impacts.

I have that dewalt electric impact. It does have descent power but is to freaking big to fit anywhere. I think I have used it once when my compressor shot craps.

I'll attest to Ted's HF electric impact - worked well for spinning off my front pinion nut last weekend.

On sale for $50 at Harbor Freight right now. With my shitty compressor, it actually does better than I can run an air impact at the moment.

I have one for doing lug nuts, and other small bolts where my impact would be overkill. I don't see a point in spooling up the compressor for small jobs.
