If you change the shackles on a 94 wrangler to a set of 2" longer shackles, what headaches are you making for yourself? I ask this because my little brother has a YJ and i know nothing about them. Will it create issuses in the steering and other suspension?

i think it will fool up pinion angles and castor in the front??? but im no leaf sprung suspension pro either

It will accelerate spring wear if nothing else.

i don't believe you...why not get add-a-leafs...although I really don't see a problem with shackles, the add-a-leafs will help him get a little more life out of the stock springs and combat axle wrap. Probably close to the same price

true. but in the long run wouldnt stronger shackles be better for wheelin?

the 2" shackles would only give 1" of lift. They're not really enough to noticably mess up any of the angles. Try to stay away from the add-a-leaf stuff at all cost.

why?

why?

Any that I've seen/ used before would begin to sag down to stock height after a few thousand miles. The add-a-leaf tries to take all of the load (because it has the highest arch) and will only support it for so long. The ones I have experience with failed faster with wheeling, too (they don't like to flex very much).

hmm not experienced that but Ive only dealt with them once. Lasted 2 years and was ditched for whole spring packs when bigger lift was installed. Never noticed any sag or lack of flex. Your shackles become more exposed to trail hazards when you extend them and I was under the impression they add more stress to the spring packs, contributing to the packs wearing out and sagging...but I don't know dave do whatever you want, hell man just ditch that body lift and build him a spring over axle kit and call it done.

I had Pro Comp add a leafs in the back of my Chevy truck and I never had any problem with them sagging even after I left my 800lb Polaris in the back of the truck for over a month.

2" shackles are about the max length that won't cause any real drivability issues. They are funny looking though. The full length 2" add-a-leaves like the ones both Pro-Comp, and Rancho make would be a better alternative, and offer a little more lift than the shackles. The soft YJ springs work well with the add-a leaves, but the more you flex them, the faster they sag. I used to go through a set every year.

Longer shackles will increase the wrap on the leaf packs when under flex.
Roll will increase when cornering.
The fronts will hit the rocks on approach.
The rears will hit on departure.
All of these things combined will rip the mounts off the frame.
Which is not good.

Been there, done that on a CJ. Never again. Better off to get a good 3-4" lift kit, dropped pitman arm, and a 1" body lift. Maybe a shackle reversal kit. All are easy installs and then you can fit 33x12.50's. If you want bigger, then do a spring over.

real good point on the approach and departure stuff. I hadnt thought about that stuff.

Maybe a shackle reversal kit.
