I started with a 97 laredo I6, off the dealer lot, sept '06:

still 31's in that pic

ballin...haha looser :smt082 I was new, what can I say:
http://www.grandcherokeephotos.com/albums/userpics/10156/zj1s.JPG

did some mudding, swamping...just can't get enough of a sexy dirty girl:
http://www.grandcherokeephotos.com/albums/userpics/10156/water_ZJ.JPG

time for some armor and a winch:

http://www.grandcherokeephotos.com/albums/userpics/10156/bare_bumper.JPG

got a little too friendly with the ditch one night. day after I mounted the bumper for the first time...if it wasnt for this bumper, I think the hit would have fawked my fender and possibly uniframe too.

ended up with plenty of carnage tho, bent all but 1 link connected to front axle, including trac bar, drag link and a shock almost 90 degrees :flipoff2:

check out the shock carnage:

Layla followed teh TJ thru plenty of trees...wheeled like a champ

but then it was all downhill from there

water pump went, I pushed her a wee bit too far on redline :smt018 and ended up with a leaned piston from detenation. no way I was scrappin the beast too much into her...so I picked up a $300 4.0 that a friend picked up by chance that very week.

Im no mechanic or anything...but felt like manning up, so curt and I, 75 beers or so and few runs to the parts store, plenty of blood guts n swearing...and we had a running 4.0

ran for about 50km and started overheating like crazy:smt021 again!

long story short it was a rebuilt 4.0 RENIX that I swapped in, along with a Hi flow 2000 intake and SS header.
WELL RENIX and HO dont mix. head and intake no worky...so I ripped her apart once more slapped in a whole 2000 head from an XJ and Layla lived!!!:supz:

All of this took a 6 week process, since I worked full time and now I am in univesity for engineering 4 days a week:coffee:
drove her about 1000km this time, she sounded sweeeeet, so up the big ol' greens mountain this past weekend.

wheeled that mountain all day and into the night!!! kept up with a whole pack of beasts, 3 TJ's on 33's 6 Rubi's on 35's!!! and Layla held her own that day :smt019...one winch pull and one blown bead to make it thru :supz:

so I headed for the 3 hr drive home

looks like Layla might have one more lifeline...or does she.

Found a 94 ZJ with 20k on shop rebuilt motor for $900...now to swap the motor AGAIN or swap all my other modz???? Hard decision

94 has leather, a slipping trans and 320km on everything but motor, what you guys think?

Swap the motor, depending on the condition of your own tranny, and keep the other's axles and what not for trail spares.

Swap the motor, depending on the condition of your own tranny, and keep the other's axles and what not for trail spares.

Sounds like the best plan to me... If your tranny is solid I would stick with that.

You could also have layla to trail ride with, while your sticking new axles and long arms under the other one :D... thats what I would do haha

Toronto traffic.

Damn man, after talking to both Curt and you it sounded pretty bad. Looks like it was too. Shitty business.

dayam...bad time of yr I guess Tony did his about 1 yr ago this time eh?

yeah it was rough dude. still got a rod stuck in the wall. upon further investigation it looks like the damn crank-journal was all pitted. seems that a $300 rebuilt 4.0 sitting in a friends driveway WAS too go to be true. rustin from the inside

at least now I have time to mount the damn radio and scheme up a rear bumper

time for an update boys. considered my options, the 94 pos had a list as long as my arm of req'd fixes to get it on the road. I wouldn't have time to swap out the good engine until next may anyway.

so I sold the '94 for $200 more than I paid for it, and started saving my pennies.

ended up buying a remanufactured engine, which comes xrayed, machined, head machined and all the rest of the guts are brand new. these engines are rumored to last longer than stock since they're built with tighter tolerances than oem engines. got my blown engine pulled, new engine , installed with 3yr warranty for around $3k all said and done (including new engine). cheaper than a new heap with 150000 k's and I didnt have to do any labour. since the beast is staying around for a while I thought my money was best spent on the most reliable engine I could afford.

snagged a set of 33's from a buddy who didnt need them. now she's haulin my ass to work everyday, just waiting for the winter build knife to find her underside. winter plans include sleeved frame rails, a full 1/4" skid, custom front LA's (not doing the rears until I stretch the rear end with a decent axle) all bolted to hand me down d30/d35 with 4.56's and pinion bearings that aren't causing vibrations like a cheap motel bed. (I wouldnt have paid for another set of stock axles, got them in return for some machining in a custom TJ LA build) can't afford to build 3/4 or 1 ton axles till Im done school so these will do until then.

a pic for shits, can anyone tell me why it will only post links when I copy in the image location??? when I use photobucket locations on my local board the pics shows direct in the thread.
