yeah it is a 35, but it is built with 31 spline axles and gears fron randy's ring and pinion, and it is soon to be an 8.8... i got dibs on one already. and i love those damn procomps... i wasn't sure about them at first, but after this last weekend, i wouldn't have gone with anything else

the 8.8 all ground down, waiting for a cover, and the brackets
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g59/tywilson88/DSC02742.jpg
these are the brackets i made out of 1/4". they shuld be way stronger than the stockers
lower CA mount, and shock mount

upper CA mount, and trackbar mount
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g59/tywilson88/DSC02747.jpg
the hughes tranny all installed
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g59/tywilson88/DSC02735.jpg
this is the new 231 t-case w sye... waiting for the linkage
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g59/tywilson88/DSC02734.jpg
got some boxes of goodies... axles, gears, locker, bearings, seals, and of course royal purple
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g59/tywilson88/DSC02737.jpg
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g59/tywilson88/DSC02738.jpg
empty axle.
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g59/tywilson88/DSC02732.jpg
its giving me trouble, the new pinion doesn't have a crush sleeve, it is just one more thing in the diff that is adjusted with shims. so im having a hard time with that. i hate gears.
this is how she sits now, no guts in the front diff, no rear diff, no linkage, and no driveshafts. stil lots of work to do on my own. thank goodness andy and glen down at ori are helping me out. and not only that, they are letting me tak up the lift. thanks guys really appreciate it

after getting the wrong gears yesterday, i got the front together today... i had a bit of a hard time i got the gear on, and put in the pinion, pressed on all the bearings (and even though i had checked it over and over about 10 times to make sure it was right) the carier had to little backlash. so i had to pull everything out, and had to put the .125 shim on the other side... ugh... well i pressed everything back on, got the locker in, and the alloy axles in. tomorrow i fill it up with that royal purple...

now im just waiting on the spring buckets... hopefully they will come soon
never was able to get those spring buckets, so i had to cut them off the old axle... it worked, so i will get a refund. as kinda stated the rear end is in. finally i got all the bracket welded on, and all the shiznit hooked up.
here is the axle with all the brackets tacked on. pinion angle set to 11 degrees, and spring buckets at 0 degrees
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g59/tywilson88/DSC02751.jpg
got em all completely welded... some of my mad skillz (sorry about the bad pics)

axle

sitting on her own feet
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g59/tywilson88/DSC02760.jpg
a shot of the new axle under there... with out paint. ill paint it when i get it outside
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g59/tywilson88/DSC02761.jpg
since im so cheap i decided i didn't want to pay for the diff cover, and even a skid would have been like $150 so i decided to make my own
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g59/tywilson88/DSC02750.jpg
i think it came out pretty good, i just have to drill the holes and it will be done. by the way, what a royal pain in the ass
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g59/tywilson88/DSC02748.jpg
tomorrow i adjust the trackbar a little more, fill the diffs, hook up the linkage, fill the tranny, order the new driveshafts. and maybe even start her up!!!

I think the diff cover looks damn good. How'd you go about making it? Use an old diff cover and form it, or did you roll the steel?

tywilson88
01-22-2008, 08:16 PM
i took some 3"x3/16" steel and just used a regular chop saw w/ a steel blade, and made cut by cut... as for the bend, that came from a vice and a hammer. alot of grinding, and wala.

how did you cut the brackets off the D35 to reuse? plazma cutter? grinder?

how did you construct the control arm brackets, out of 1/4" plate? correct me if i am wrong, but art the brackets at a slight angle so the control arm faces in a tad?

if i can get steel for brackets like $80 tops, and an 8.8 with gears for $120 that would be great.

how did you cut the brackets off the D35 to reuse? plazma cutter? grinder?i just used a plain old cutting wheel, because the axle tube is much smalle on the 35, it actually had to be groud out even more before it would sit on the axle tubes.

i measured everything about 5 times and made a drawing on a pie of paper with ll the measurements, then i just used a chopsaw to cut up the steel, and a grinder to shape it like i wanted.

ok, so, use cutting wheel for coil buckets.
for brackets, measure 20 times, cut once.

thanks.

as to your "huh" i was just thinking out loud.... a $200 8.8 swap as to opposed to like 400 because of buying brackets.

i got all the fluids topped off, and drove her around.. no rear ds yet, so it doesn't have very good manners with the auto-locker in the front
