Hey everyone! Cool site you guys have... Been around for a little bit but never posted up my jeep as it was stock until this past month. It's not the rockcrawler type build but rather a go fast desert prerun vehicle. It's a dd and play vehicle... and for what it is it's fine. I'm not going to expect the same performance as an a-armed or beamed ranger but i wanted the look and functionality... I sold my desert ranger a while ago and needed something else to build. Maybe for some long terms plans i want to tie in a full cage front to rear to the bedcage, 5.9 swap, trussed ford 9/d30, and make it legal to run in jeepspeed... but right now those are just dreams. Enjoy the pictures.

-95 limited up country, v8, 231
-fox 2.0 2 tube 10" bypass front, fox 2.0 14" reservoir rear, re4.5 springs front, clayton longarm front, 1.5x.083 chromoly bedcage, atx teflon chambers x5 (tires are 265/75/16), perrys/mcneil 4.5 flare glass fenders, magnaflow cat/muffler, various jks pieces, 3 hella fog/driving lights w/ rear facing amber...

i don't miss anything from this soccer mom look!

I am impressed by your apparent planning and execusion. I'm of the same mind set. I've been slowly acquiring the parts and planning for 2 years and only recently completed(?) my alterations to my 2001, WJ Limited. Watch out ducks and coyotes here I come!

Looking good! I agree, it's nice to see some people planning ahead and following through, instead of changing their plans every 10 seconds.

VERY cool build. I'll be expecting updates of this in the future

how does it ride/handle with the fox shocks? I dont prerun per se but I do alot of whooped out trails so I'm looking at resevoir shocks for the future.

also, is the front wider than the rear? I see 2 wheel spacers but am just curious- looks wider up front in some pics, and even in others.

Keep up the good work!

The fender flares are awsome, who makes them?
I have to know.

andy,

http://www.mcneilracinginc.com/off-road-fiberglass/Jeep/GrandCherokee/index.htm#

they make front and rear glass... the rear is a bit more extensive, door skins and quarter panels. i am seriously thinking about getting them now! what do you think?

In response to planning and execution, i always had a general idea to what i would do and how i wanted it to look... It definitely is nice when you are gathering all the parts, putting it together, and the finished product. The big thing that i wasn't planning on is the longarms... i didn't want to spend money twice and get shortarms now and longarms later... The clayton's are nice! Also the bypass shocks, they just came at the right time and right price... got them for $500 for the pair new. (they are like $500 each!)

firestarter,

The shocks are super nice! Reservoirs are good for cooler shock temps, but if you are just rompin on the trails at a low-medium pace, it probably won't be the wisest choice to drop serious money on shocks. In the desert shock temps can be up to 300* and that's when you need huge 2.0-3.0" body reservoir shocks... If you wanted to do fox 2.0 reservoirs it will be around $170-200 for each corner... Probably the best monotube shock out there is the bilstein 5100. I'd just get those with the appropriate valving and be done with it! ...and spend half the money!

Nice work!!! while your cutting holes in the back, you might as well make a little access hatch for the fuel pump. well, unless you're planning on putting a fuel cell in there somewhere. regardless, it's lookin sweet!

wow, those are nice welds. i would love to do something like that... my next big purchase is shocks like that.

i got my fenders from rusty's, i should have gone with mcniel becuse they were cheaper, and they have less bulge... i got 6", those are 4" if im not mistaken? anyways, i can't wait to see waht happens wth this build

-this is from my thread from nagca... some new stuff. thanks.

happy new years everyone! got a couple of new things...
-front/rear addco sway bars
-even smaller tires, 255/70/16 yokohama geolander at-s (horrible on snow!!)
-2wd xj axle, going to be sleeved with 2" .250 wall chromoly
-ballistic fab chevy tre kit
-currie enterprise johnny joint kit
-ford 9" disk brake axle, posi, 28 spline, big bearing, DISK! off of a lincoln versailles i think, 62" wms
-iphone from girlfriend!

... work on the axles is slow, just glad that i found the ford 9... $200 bucks! the front axle will probably be on in the next month. i'm going to use the 4wd hubs with the unit bearings and stub axle shafts... stronger setup than using the 2wd spindle hubs. also sleeving the axle will be strong enough for this stuff... http://youtube.com/watch?v=4dU9M055RlU :)
i KNOW i will be getting guff for ditching 4wd but whatever!! so as it will stand it will have:

-2wd dead axle up front
-ford 9" in the rear
-46rh with the 231 case still...

basically its going from 4wd to 2wd... long term i might put in an nv4500 that my friend is selling for dirt cheap. its a 2wd nv4500 so i will completley get rid of "4wd" system (front axle and transfer case). 4wd is useful in the snow and stuff but for where i live and the stuff i do, it's not necessary. let me know if you guys need d30/35 stuff... thanks.

This is the first time a 4wd-2wd swap has been attempted on this site. Way to be different. Love the bedcage and bumper trim job though.

And I'm sorry but those fender flares bug me. Could you not have got them to fit any better? If I'm gonna be paying that much for glass I'd expect it to have a better build quality than that.

why does the front sit so high? and why are you getting even smaller tires for it?

i want updates, lol

victory
10-29-2008, 03:08 PM
Not much updates... I got a beard driver seat and my friend at a driveline shop hooked up 3.07 gears/lsd and everything wearable on the rear axle for REALLY cheap. I drive a lot of highway so i need that underdrive... At 70mph, it's spinning at 1900rpm, i'm getting like 22-25mpg!

The next thing i'm probably looking to do is a manual swap when my 46rh dies, but it's still pretty strong so it might be a long while for that.

The seat is really comfy!

how did you mount your seat?

ATL ZJ
10-29-2008, 03:30 PM
Aw man hook your passenger up. That's cruel. ;)

Pics of your steering wheel/hub please. what brand and size? Is it removable? did you weld on a splined shaft or what?

paulkeith
10-29-2008, 03:35 PM
not sure what he did, but i'll throw in my 0.02... i'm about 90% sure a grant 3021 will fit your ZJ column. You can then use any grant 5 bolt wheel. I have that plus a grant formula GT wheel on the CJ, but I'm about to pull it off to sell it. We can try the 3021 to see if it fits if you want. not sure if you care about grant or whatever brand, just speaking to what hubs and discos will fit the column.

Victory: sweet build man. I feel like you've got too little tire and too little backspacing under those massive front fenders though

victory
10-29-2008, 04:46 PM
The seat has 4 tabs so all I needed was aluminum 90* angle to attach to the stock electric bases.

The steering wheel setup consists of a Momo hub (for jeep cherokee's xj), and Sparco quick release hub and Sparco suede wheel.

I'm on my mobile but I'll post pictures of the hub and seat mounting later... I'll get the part # for the momo hub if you guys need.

Sweet. Suede is a no-go for me, but the other p/n's would be helpful.

Yeah suede for the street without wearing gloves gets gross... But it was a spare wheel from my old track car. Sparco/momo leather wheel is on my list :)

Hey victory, I really like your ride. Very clean. I was just wondering how much extra work you added to make the seat fit. I am thinking off getting these seats..
