I am attempting to organize an official event to show the support of the 4x4 community of U4WDA as our voice in this process. I would like to do a "trail" ride up state street to the Salt Lake main public Library on the afternoon of 10/03/07.

The route while not yet determined may consist of 75 - 150 of vehicles traveling from a meeting point on 3300 South around 4:45 in the afternoon and traveling north on state street to the capital then circling around and ending at the Library. All participants would then park their rigs and go into the library and support U4WDA at the meeting. I would like all participants to bring with them a letter supporting U4WDA.

We need to support U4WDA as this is our main voice in this process and we need to be unified behind them.

In order for this to be effective we need ALOT of rigs in this ride. I do not have enough contacts to get this information to all who need it. Please take this forward to your other clubs and friends and family.

Please post up!!! I need preliminary numbers pretty quickly if we are to make this happen and get the necessary permits. Let me know how many rigs and how many riders.

Imagine a line of 75 - 150 rigs traveling down state street in support of the 4x4 community and our right to enjoy our public lands. We can make this happen if we all participate.

Please PM me with any other sites either you have posted this on or that I should go to.

Yes I will I care about Moab and want to continue to wheel there, but can't make it for this ride considering I'm 2,000 miles away.

Update: After day one of pimping this we have 31 rigs that say they can make it and an additional 10 that might make it. Please take this forward to your other contacts and lets see what we can do.
Work is being done on permits today and tomorrow and I will see if I can get some of your questions answered.

**oh yea** so you don't think I am a complete a$$ this site was recommended to my by a fellow RME'r. I realize this is a national site so I am really trying to get the attention of the Utah folks here. But it is also good for ya'all to know what is going on here

I was actually gonna ask if you had put it up on RME. Might want to try CO4x4 too as I know some of the western slope guys might be able to make it up that way.

We are Legal!!! Got the word today that our permit was approved. They had to hold a special meeting to work out the details but the word is http://www.utah4x4club.com/style_emoticons/default/thumbup.gif

The permit stipulates that

All vehicles must be street legal.
Must obey all traffic laws
Be legally parked at our destination

there will be a police presence for the ride. They are not going to close intersections or escort us just be there as a monitor in case there are any problems.

A word about parking. There will be plenty of parking at the library in the parking terrace however the clearance there is 7'. That should accomodate most rigs but there will be some (like mine) that wont fit there. Play with airing down and see what your height is in the mean time I am looking at a couple of close by business to see if we can park there too.

That said lets double our efforts and make this HUGE

Just thought I would let the members here know of the progress we are making up in SLC on this Trail ride. as of today 09/26 we are up to 100 rigs committed to making the run and we will have more people attending this public meeting than the room it is being conducted in can hold!!!!

Below is the lastest update that I sent out if you would like to take the time to read it.

I KNOW THIS IS LONG BUT PLEASE READ: IMPORTANT
OK everybody just over one week left and we are at 90 participants. Looks like we are going to have a nice number of vehicles and attendees for the meeting here are a few house keeping items.
1. The meeting place has changed. We are now going to meet at “Crawlers” located on the East side of State Street at 3794 S State Street.
2. We will meet at 4:45 PM on Wednesday 10/03/07. That will give us time to stage and put up any banners or window paint that we plan to use. Window paint will be provided to us compliments of U4WDA….Thanks Steve!! (Scoutabout). The planned departure time is 5:15 PM.
3. Travel plan is as follows
a. Staging area “Crawlers” (thanks Bryon!!) 3794 S State Street 4:45 PM
b. Depart North bound on State Street at approx. 5:15 PM
c. Travel North bound on State Street to 300 N
d. Turn East bound on 300 N (in front of the State Capital) to East Capital Road
e. Turn North bound on East Capital Road
f. Turn into the East Parking lot and then back out heading South on East Capital Road to 300 N
g. Turn West bound on 300 N to State Street
h. Turn South bound on State to 400 South
i. Turn East bound on 400 South to the Public Library on the South side of the road.
j. Total travel time should be 25 – 35 minutes depending on traffic conditions.
k. Enter library to attend meeting.
4. The meeting is scheduled to be held in the 4th floor conference room. The conference room seats 100 people. This is such and opportunity for us. If we can show up in such mass numbers that they do not have enough room to seat all of us and we are out of the room and in the hall we can make a huge statement about the importance of public land use to our community. Just this ride alone could provide 120 – 160 (or even more) attendees (depending on the number of passengers). I will post up separately on the library situation…which is a good situation to have!!!
5. Parking is available at the library but again clearance is 7’ so if your rig is taller than that you will need to find a different parking place. I still have some leg work to do to see if we can find a designated area.
6. Suggested Dress: As an off road community we are stereotyped as a bunch of beer guzzling red necks. I think it would be appropriate that we dress to kill the stereo type and dress professionally for the meeting. Business casual would be an impressive statement that we are more than just red necks seeking to destroy the environment.
7. Rules of conduct: I am required by the city to post the rules of conduct for this event
a. Any signs must be carried by hand or supported by lathe-type sticks only. Ours will be on our vehicles which is acceptable.
b. You may not interfere with pedestrians or vehicular traffic. If people do not stop to listen to you, you may not insist that they do so. Specifically, you may not grab or attempt to physically restrain or touch visitors of the businesses or residences in the area or any person on public or private property.
c. You may not block or attempt to block any entrance or driveways.
d. The petitioner has agreed that the group leader will be the group coordinator.
e. The petitioner shall use its best efforts to notify all participants of these rules prior to the start of the event.
f. The petitioner acknowledges that the event is for nonviolent purposes.
g. The petitioner agrees to be responsible to leave the areas of the event clean, and that all objects such as: signs, sticks, leaflets, or candles will be removed by the petitioner's group.
h. The petitioner acknowledges the constitutional right of anyone to ignore or not listen to your group and ignore or not read any information literature that your group may be passing out.
i. Your group may not obstruct the free passage of pedestrians, vehicles, block driveways, entrances, or exits to any business or building, and may not enter onto private property without the permission of the property owner.
j. The group shall abide by all pertinent local, state, and federal ordinances and laws while conducting the activity.
k. Violent acts will NOT be tolerated in any manner.
l. All vehicles must be street legal.
m. All vehicles must obey all traffic laws.
n. All vehicles must be legally parked at our destination.

RMP "Trail" Ride closing update
What a night!!!! http://smilies.vidahost.com/otn/realhappy/luxhello.gif We had 94 people in 82 rigs show for the event (had some join as we went along :). And the ride went smoothly. We got broke up several times but I think that just added to the magnitude of our line.

We made a big impression on BLM and those hosting the event (SWCA). Deb R (SWCA) the person in charge of the meeting was surprised that we came in such large numbers and said she was very impressed. She also mention "And you are all dressed so nicely". Channel 13 showed up for media coverage as well.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped out with this gigantic undertaking. Our show of support for public land use could not be ignored tonight!!

A very special thank you to those who helped make this event possible behind the scenes

Jeff R For brain childing this idea to begin with
Bryon S for providing "Crawlers" as our meeting location, working with SSL to arrange our police escort on to State Street and the orange vests.
Steve Jackson and U4WDA for providing the window paint and putting the fact sheet together.
Michelle H for providing the Free Expression permit paper work for me to fill out. I would have been searching for days for the application
Scott H for being my sounding board and letting me bounce all kinds of idea's off him. He did a great job keeping this grounded in reality. Also for making some calls to various media outlets.
Debbie, Paige, Quinn, Ron, Brian, Scott, Bryon for helping out with traffic control and information gathering at "Crawlers".
Everyone who helped spread the word
I would also like to thank Elizabeth at the SLC Main public library for being so willing to accommodate our group. She put in some legwork to make sure we could ALL attend.

Forgive me if I missed someone it is not intentional

This shall conclude my obnoxiously long posts...for now :P
