Well i have had the ZJ buggy for a LONG time. I wheel the shit out of it. and well it has served its purpose.

For the longest time i was goign to build up a tube buggy skined liek a tracker. Wellllll...that idea changed.

These are the parts i currently own:
-1999 Vortec 4.3L V6
-1999 4L60E Tranny
-NP241
-Dana 300
-Two Steering Dana 60's
-Adapter for 4L60E to NP241
-And a 241 Box for Rocks crawl box kit on its way.
-1993 ZJ Head Lights
-1993 ZJ Tail lights
-Tracker rear bench seat.
-Front and rear line locks
-race runner 18" airshocks

Items that are on their way:
-ZJ Front fenders

First you ave to plant the seed, then you have to water it, then you have to let it grow into a plant.....then you fuck this plant....err ah i mean drive it!

Well long story short. I want a Pro Mod class buggy for werock with the capability to carry 4 people. Well the bench will be UBER tinny but still the possibility is there. And the tracker bench folds down flat for storage.

Stay tuned.

of the the built propane motor will be goign into the Suburban.

well i started in the doubler.

cracked the 241 open and took it all apart. i ordered up my 5/8" Alum plate for the adapter. will be ready tomorrow. All i need is the new main shaft either i cut one down or i get one from DD machine.

I like the chassis design--very similar to what is in my head although I'll probably bring a C piller down like to give the small bench a little more head room.

what WB you shooting for? I'm hoping for 105" Wb and 77" outside tire to outside tire.

Kraqa
08-30-2007, 07:50 PM
WB 108-110

74-78" outside to outside.

Kraqa
08-30-2007, 08:33 PM
well i got my price quote back from the machine shop. 220.00 to cut down the 241's main shaft

apparently because there is so much meet on the main shaft it is along time to turn it down. plus they are 1 hour away from me and their lead time is less then to be desired. Some of you might know OTT industries from their doublers and highsteer arms.

bo eeerns.

so i decided that 349.00 US wasn't bad for the complete kit from DD machine. it comes with a 4143 Chromo shaft. all the hardware plate clockgin ring..basically everything.

i pick that kit up this saterday with my adapter to go from the 6 bolt 4l60E tranny to the np241. so by next week the driveline shoudl be allllll bolted up and painted. then i start bending tube bitches!!!.

well i'm building the dana 60 fornt. and let me tell you

a cut and turn job is no easy tast. i'm 4 hours into it and this d60 is still fighting me. it would be so much easier if i was just using dedenbear inner C's and i'm almost ready to buy them because these things are so freekin stupid.

the rear steer axle is ready to be installed. The tie rod and ram mounts are not done but for what i need it is good. Monday i will assemble the hubs and bolt the tires on.

Tuesday or wed build the lower arms and thursday friday put the two halfs of the chassis together. This means saterday i'l shoudl have a rolling chassis with the possibility of the motor installed.......boya!!!

no pics cause the rear axle look liek the front axle except no hydro ram mount.....oh ya and i'm using a surplus single ended ram in the rear.

OK well here's the update.

First of all i want to let everyone know that the rid height will drop abtou 2" The frame will be modified for the uptravel. and i am convinced that the roof line needs to come down abotu 4"
I'm going to put in the motor and mount my seats as low as they can go them rework the roof to fit the seats. I guess that is a bit of a downside to building the buggy in two halfs but i can't stand looking at the current roofline it looks WAYYYY to high. it 46" from the floor and i'm thinking it shoudl be around 42-40.

OverkillZJ
12-04-2007, 01:14 PM
I think the budget is access to good tools and having a driveline already! Seriously, building the cage just takes time and tools and a good design like Kraqa has, metal doesn't cost that much

Cody
12-04-2007, 01:43 PM
Nice. You work fast.

Ya, running the irok's backwards will get them to work about 70% as well as a good tire. ;)

budget depends upon patience and the ability to build stuff.

If you want something fast, then you don't have time to accumulate parts when you find good deals. If you can't build things then you have to pay someone who knows how to. If you have someone build you a turn-key buggy you'd be in it 30-100k pretty easy. If you do it yourself, assuming 1 ton drivetrain probably 10-25k depending on the level of bling you want.

Kraqa
12-04-2007, 08:33 PM
i'l be around 10k when done. including the atlas, CO's, shafts, fuel cell, motor,

but i had alot of shit lying aorund.

its the small shit that kills ya. liek 250 on bolts. 100 on lexan for the body. 350 on ZJ body panels.

All depends I guess. It does add up quick still. I priced a stick of 2" .25 wall square tube, $8/foot.

, metal doesn't cost that much

Kraqa
12-05-2007, 02:43 AM
wow where are you buying your tube????

last time i bought that i payed less then half that per foot.

I i've left enought room for either an extra seat or major storage. thats the problem i had with the last one. the propane tank was in a good location but i didnt' sheet anything in so storage was the shits.

i have a pallet of 12 gauge aluminum abtou 3' thick that i'm using for this whoel buggy.

its all scraps fro mwork so it will make up everything except the ZJ body panel and the lexan sides.

there is a good pisibility i might end up with a rear rad once i try to fit a winch in there.

Whoa! How'd that happen?

I'm guessing you don't want a rear radiator because you don't want that happening right behind your head. Correct? This is kind of a dumb question, but why is it beneficial to have the radiator in the rear? I always figured in slow moving vehicles it didn't really matter.

The rig is coming along great. Can't wait to see more.

alot of buggies have the radiators in the rear because there isnt always alot of room under the hoods of those things, then you try to mount a winch and then there really is none. Heres how much room we got under the hood of our buggy. Either way you go, you got a bad ass look rig Kris

Fuel lines done,
Fuel filter Done
MOUnted Orbital
Mounted The hydro resevoir
Mounted the pump
Mounted the 3 shifter handles, Front axle, rear axle, doubler

i got the tranny shifter all done. Took me abotu 3 ours. The proper cable for the 4l60E is 130$ and there is no way i'm sitting on my back on the ground at an auto wrecker this time of year. so i bought the B&M universal one. Custom brakets at both ends. I used the original ZJ shifter.

The 4l60E have one more gear position then the ZJ. I'm assuming Overdrive and regular drive. And the throw between park and revers is abotu 1.5 of the ZJ. so the whole shifter had to be modified for a longer travel.

i had to extend the park further worward, and add another shift gate for the 1st gear selection. I also ground down the gate between nuetral and reverse.

The console Aluminum work is done to.

Pics will follow tomorrow.

Rad fan mounts. I couldn't think of any other way to mount the Tarus fan. SO i came up with this. IF anyone have any better ideas please let me know

1/4" ready rod, nuts 1/4" and 5/16" flat washers and 1/4" locks.

this is the rod assembled.
nut->1/4" lock->1/4" flat washer->5/16" flat washer.

then i wrapped the whole thing in electrical tape to stop it from wearing through the rad core.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v280/Kraqa/New%20Buggy/IMG_0224.jpg

installed in the rad core.

i did that in 4 places and then got the whole thing in the truck

What about wrapping that threaded rod with a piece of brass pipe and having it act as a sleeve to protect the radiator. Which would wear better than the tape and be a bit more stable. Just an idea.

Then a teflon or rubber washer to contact the outside of the radiator too instead of the metal flat washer.

Something that I noticed that i'm not sure about, aren't those power steering coolers supposed to have air running longways across them for higher efficiency? Even the way you have it i'm sure it will get decent flow, just dunno if you might be able to make it better.

You'll be driving, what, 5mph in a buggy? You're more likely to have a stronger crosswind then one from the buggy moving forward.

the aluminum work on the buggy is almost done!!!!!! yayyy!! 1 more peice in the rear. Its square 24" x 24" so it shodul be quick.

i did skin the sides of the "trunk" area. all the aluminum has been removed in the rear. it has been cleaned and preped for the final install. so i can check that off my list.

The main reason for removing the floor was that someone put a deposite on my doubler/t-cases.

I just e-mail AA and i'm waiting to get a lead time on my atlas!!!

-2 @ Fox 16" remote res CO's
-Wilwood dual MC + petal assembly
-2 @ ood pins

shoudl be here this week thnx to Jeap Thrills.

all thats left to order is my rear longfeilds and i shoudl be good to go.

thn a ton of small shit...not to mention redoign the drive shaft in the fornt.

and a shit load of wiring and i'm good to go.

oh i plumbed my hydro system to. big snake orgy of hose.

Kris,

How have I missed this before now?

I can really appreciate the amount of labor, and especially planning, that has gone into this. Everything fits together great- I may end up copying you on the truss/ram mount/CO mounts. Will you be tying the ram mount into the diff cover and also did you use .250 wall for all of that? What do you bend that with? The front uppers look like .188.

Also loving the OEM ZJ tranny shifter. Keep up the good work.

Plus he doesn't have shit on me... No comparison. Now this is wrong spring rates....

i dressed all the welds with a 80 grit 2" puck sander and removed all the spatter I could get at on the under side.

I need to flip it back over add 10 more 1" 10 gauge tabs and then dress all the rest of the welds.

the paint is fully gloss.

I dont' build these professionally because the job i have right now pays well flexible hours and has more stability then buggy building.

Plus then fabricating wouldnt' be so fun.

But that being said. i build my friends trucks for money or i trade them my fab services for their wiring, house reno/other shit.
