I bought my Jeep back in March, 2004. My parents helped me pay for it as part of my graduation present. I got it from a friend's dad who owns a Ford dealership. I payed $5,100 with 88,000 miles.

When I got it, it was slammed to the ground with no tint on the windows and a junk aftermarket tape player.

First to be replaced was the tape player. Next I got the windows tinted. I went through several variations of speaker set-ups. I ended up replacing all the door speakers with Audiobahn 6.5" 3-way speakers and installed 8 new tweeters, not including the tweeters in the 4 new door speakers. I've been to several car shows and had my jeep pressure tested. I hit 154db last time I went to a show. Not bad for having no dynomat.

I then replaced the junk 1-1/4" trailer hitch with a 2" reciever so I could tow my trailer and pop-up camper. I then replaced the stock air box with an aluminum tube and a K&N filter. I also picked up a PowerAid throttle body spacer.

Soon after I started planning my lift. I was looking into a BB but I wanted more. So I began planning a Front to Rear swap. After the install I picked up some new 31x10.5 BFG A/T's. About a year later I got a set of Dick Cepek 15" DC1's

Not too long ago I painted all the body molding and I'm pretty happy with the results. I also won a free set of T&T Sliders recently and just finished getting those installed. I also picked up a Gas tank skid.

I then installed an electric fan and just finished relocating the switch to the dash. The Taurus fan I installed is amazingly efficient. It keeps the engine cooler that the stock fan did.

Later I got ambitious and decided to swap out my piece of junk 249 for a 242 from a '91 XJ. I wanted to keep the full-time option.
http://www.nagca.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26048

Soon after all this someone got jealous and decided to break into my Jeep and try and steal my system. He cut all the wires but, obviously couldn't lift it out so he stole my wallet and digital camera.
http://www.nagca.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=25654&highlight=theft

This Christmas I was treated to a new compressor that I soon found room to fit in the back. I wired it into a 600 watt inverter.

I'm not going to say anything about the tweeters...I'm not going to say anything about the tweeters...:shake: one thing though there is a huge difference between sound QUALITY (SQ) and sound QUANTITY (SPL). There are also several box designs that can out perform 2 speakers with just one. Those boxes require a lot of waveform math but are crazy powerful for SPL.

The sliders look good though!

8" of depth. Those subs are probably right around that measurement for mounting depth, right ( this is just a guess because your diagram didnt show any measuements for the thickness of the wood, 3/4" MDF)? Anyway, most subs need 2-3" of air space between them and the box to work properly. BTW, just trying to help.

WTF is wrong with you? Stacking spacers...

arnt you the one telling people that was ok on NAGCA? You should go back there. Quickly.

SOLITUDE

actually I stacked spacers back-in-the day before I knew anything about suspensions. It is a horrible idea and I was the one on NAGCA telling everyone NOT to stack them....

Yes. That picture with the tweeters is an old picture. I've since removed 6 and upgraded the door speakers again.

The box did have a lot of thought put into it. The subs are about 6" in depth. The only thing I wish i would have done was to make the junk space larger and the sub enclosure smaller. I also wish I hadn't made it so long. It's sometimes hard to close and lock the back seats.

That's a pretty cool set up, but I hope you have have you exhaust headed out the back, and make sure you have no leaks. Even then, you'd better not run the rig with the windows closed, or you could end up with CO poisoning.

Started working on the 44. Pulled the calipers off, pulled the lockouts off and got all the way down inside the spindle and found out I need an Axle Nut Socket.... Can't find one anywhere in town... I'll have to order one. booo....

After finding out I needed that socket I decided to go ahead and grind all the surface rust off and paint it. And here it sits:
http://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v112/84/108/501542915/n501542915_177335_4924.jpg

I can't get the cotter pin out on the driver's side knuckle... The nut just spins on the TRE..... ugh..... I also still need to rent a ball joint puller.

Suggestions on getting the Cotter pin and nut off?

Oh... and my Warn Premium Hubs came in.

I can't get the cotter pin out of the drivers side TRE bolt. So I just cut both ends off and left the center piece inside the bolt. (I'm going to punch it out when I get the nut off.) But there's so much rust on the bolt that when I torque down on the nut, the bolt and nut just spin inside the knuckle and TRE. What say you?

corrupt143
09-16-2007, 02:36 PM
EDIT: You beat me to it.

X2. Cotter pins are a soft metal, You can just twist them of with NO damage to the TRE.

The part I dont understand is "The nut just spins on the TRE." Do you mean the TRE shaft is spinning with the nut, or is the shaft stripped? If the shaft is spinning , remove the dust cover and throw a big pair of vise grips on the shaft and then give it a shot. An impact would help. If the TRE is stripped, cut the nut and shaft near the knuckle. Just be careful not to damage the knuckle.

You could try using a pickle fork to put some pressure on the tre to hold it from spinning. It puts enough friction on the ball to hold it most of the time. Also, are you using an impact? An electric impact is a good tool to have if you dont have an air compressor.

A spool on the rear is really not that big of a deal. I ran my 8.8 minispooled as my dd, and it was fine. The only time you noticed the bind was parking or turning at crawling speeds. My baja claws weared evenly with the fronts...

A spool in the front is perfectly doable with the lockouts. Obviously not on a non vac/disco 30. I have buddies running welded fronts with their, vac/disco 30s with 37s and spooled rears and DD them 45-60 miles a day... My buddy has about 10k on his mtrs and they still look newish.

I somewhat agree. I know people that run spools with no adverse effects to speak of. But it really depends on your suspension. When I was on short arms and no sway bars I would just about tip over turning onto the next street. Its downright scary.

You know that old saying, "Measure twice, cut once." Yeah well, I tend to mess up regardless of how many times I measure.... I ended up welding on the 9" UCA Truss not even close to even. I don't know what possessed me, but I welded it directly over the pumpkin. Needless-to-say, the pumpkin is not centered on the axle. *SLAPS SELF IN FACE*. So I had to backtrack and grind off the truss so I could weld on the Spring perches. I'm gonna try and finish up all the brackets on the 9" tomorrow. Oh.... and this is my workspace.

I've officially run out of space in my apartment. I have boxes everywhere. So much in fact that I don't even have the space to store my suspension pieces. It's over at my girlfriends place in her basement closet.

Almost set the apartment complex on fire. Lit all the excess acetone on the ground on fire. Had to make a dash for the fire extinguisher, as you can tell from all the chemical compound on the ground.

Got the rest of the suspension brackets welded on this afternoon. Spent an hour searching for the spacers and nuts and bolts for the axle shaft retainers. Went through everything. Got a few places left to look tomorrow. But, gonna weld on the caliper brackets and do the brakes tomorrow.

lookin good man.
if you still have the old drum backing plates, just cut the 4 bolt rectangular section out of the middle of them. that way you know it's the proper thickness. when you go to tack those ballistic caliper brackets on put the pads in place, mount the rotors on the axle shafts with one or 2 lug nuts and make sure your pad sits flush with the rotor or else you'll have uneven pad wear. I wouldn't know this from experience or anything  . Oh, and the screw valve cover on your shielding gas bottle for your welder is the same size as the axle tube on the 9" where the bracket mounts to. so you can use that to trace a line on the backet and grid away. i wish i would have known that on my first bracket instead of the second one. would have saved me a lot of time. grind a little, dry fit, grind a little more, dry fit, grind a little more..... yadda yadda yadda...... it sucked! :smt013

hmm painting brake rotors, that looks like a great idea

MoonWorks
10-02-2007, 03:17 PM
Why did you paint the rotors? They were new and looked good already. All the paint is going to come off where the pad contacts the rotor anyway. They'll end up looking like shit in the end.

SOLITUDE
10-02-2007, 03:30 PM
I know the pads are just gonna peel off all the paint where they contact the rotor. I didn't want the rest of the rotor to get all that surface rust. It was just easier to paint the whole thing than tape it off.

sand the paint off the rotors, don't let the brake pads do it. The paint gums up the pads and makes a mess of everything.

not to mention the coefficient of friction of a painted suraface is much lower than an unpainted suface. so have fun not being able to stop when you think you can. but if your going to keep the paint you might as well wax or armour all them to keep em shiny

the numbers i could find:

non painted: 0.78
painted: 0.39

damn........ There's no way in hell I'm going to leave that paint on there and try and let the pads peel it all off.

#1 - That would be one hell of a mess, there would be red paint flakes everwhere.
#2 - It would not look good, at all.
#3 - The only reason why it got painted the way it did was because I was drunk, and didn't have any tape to tape off what I didn't want painted.

I'm taking a wire wheel to the contact surface to remove all the paint. Drunken mistake, my bad.

Sorry for the mass update...... Just thought I'd post up what I've been up to. Sorry but I just copied and pasted the last couple of week's worth of posts. Enjoy.

Just ordered a new converter from Precision of NH:
http://www.gopnh.com/rvtow.cfm
$219 + $35 Core Charge.

RV/Tow Converter, 1300 RPM Stall speed. I think it's gonna go great with my 4.88 gearing. W00t w00t!

Pulled the Transfer Case, cross-member, starter, and loosened up a bunch of bolts on the tranny today.... Girlfriend has the camera, I'll upload pics later or tomorrow.

The new TC....

Cracked open the Transfer Case to make sure everything was copacetic. The magnet was shattered into a million pieces. I'll have to grab a new on of those.... ugh.

Picked up a new Rear Main Seal.... They didn't have the transmission output, or transfer case output in stock..... So another day. They look to be in good condition anyway. Rear Main was leaking just enough to piss me off....

Yeah.... I know.... I feel dumb.... Removed the little clip and the line just pulled straight out.

Got the transmission bolted back up. What a MFPITFA... I'm never doing that again. No fun, and it's rediculously difficult to do when you don't have a tranny jack. Found out that I broke the CPS when we pulled the tranny yesterday. Bent a cooler line today while putting it back in. Gotta fix the O2 sensor, stripped part of the wiring. Hmmm... What else did I break....

Gotta torque down the Converter bolts, bolt up the dust shield, starter, transfer Case, new crossmember, and pick up the new TC magnet tomorrow.

I'm paying someone to do this for me next time. Would have been worth every penny. But, hey, you live and learn.

Oh, and btw.... Yes, I did it all with no shoes on.

Put the dipstick back in, put the Transfer case back together and back in, painted and put together the new crossmember. Gotta connect all the wires and cables sometime this weekend, fill it up, bolt back up the starter, bolt down the Torque converter, cause I'm having trouble turning the engine over, and bolt up the dust shield. Yikes.....

Oh.... Gotta pick up a new CPS sometime this weekend.... Cause we all know I'm going nowhere without one of those. I also have to work about 24 hours in the next two days.... And drive back to school on Sunday night.... I don't know how all this is going to happen.
