I am looking into getting an exhaust for my ZJ. It is a 1996 4.0 with 165K miles. I am deciding between the Flowmaster 50 and 70 series. I want something that has a nice deep tone, loud when I get on it, but no noise or drone inside the cabin when cruising and not ricey sounding (I know it will never sound like a V8 being a 4.0). Also, how important is adding a hi-flow cat...im kinda trying to keep this as cheap as possible. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks in advance,
Mark

You'll probably want the 50 if you want a deep sound. Email Kolak, he'll help you out.

I had a 50 on my 5.2. I really liked it, deep sound outside, very reasonalbe inside the cabin.

50 series sounds like shit on a 4.0. 70 series is a little better, but it still sounds like shit. I've got Borla on my 4.0 and it was ok at first, but after having it for awhile, it now sounds like shit too - and drones when cruising at highway speeds.

I haven't heard a Magnaflow on a 4.0, but it has to sound better than FM or Borla. Not that a 4.0 will ever sound deep or throaty.

Have you considered the Delta 50? Bit louder than a 70 outside but no in cabin drone. I've got a 70 on my wife's XJ and it's only a bit more aggressive than stock IMO.

I am starting to think that the Delta 50 is the way to go. So you say the 70 is a little better tone but not much louder? The 70 seems like it will be too quite. I am just trying to avoid inside cabin drone, but still have it loud when I get on it, and being a 4.0 I dont want it to sound like a ricer. I want a deep rumble. How is the Delta 40 compared to the Delta 50???

I can't comment on the D40. I ran a D50 on mine but that's a V8. No drone in the cabin, but definitely woke up pedestrians if I got on it. The 70 is on our 4.0, it's kinda stealthy in that it just sounds a bit nastier but definitely not going to make you turn to see what's coming. My wife commutes with it for an hour each way and the interior is almost quiet as stock.

How about the D60, FM says it's engineered for smaller cubic inch engines.

I heard some sound clips of the D60 and it sounds a little ricey to me. I am looking for as close to a v8 sound as possible....and i know this will be tough to do since it is the i6

i got the kolak cat-back and I barely noticed a difference in HP and it sounds just a bit louder, but it does sound better and healthier. Do you really want people to know how much gas youre giving the I6 when youre slowly passing them? I dont.

Which muffler did you get from kolak? I e-mailed him before and he recomended the 70 series for the I6. Is that what you have? Also did you change your cat?
