To those of you with suspension knowledge, that have built there own long arms and helped other people build link suspension set ups, where did you learn all the info to go along with it?

I'm surfing around on pirate and various other sites, reading about build 3 and 4 link suspensions. I've played with the calculator posted on PBB.
I want to learn what various terms mean, how to pick correct mounting points, figuring out arm lenghts, etc.

No, I don't want to build a link suspension. I don't yet have all the tools nor the time to do it.
I do however want to learn as much as I can.

Barnes and Noble can get you all kinds of suspension books. Most of them are "race car" oriented but it all translates the same.

Does anyone have the measurements for the front of ZJ with a 4link setup? I understand the basics of this setup, but that calculator is confusing to me. I'm thinking about building my own as next winter's project.

do what you are doing and start building. all looks good on paper but the best thing to do is build it see how much you hate it and then change it. your link setups will only get better with time.

This brings up a good point. I plan on building my first pair of 4 links from scratch over this coming winter and I want to use good materials. I will be using something in the ballpark of 2" or 2.25" 3/8" wall DOM, with good rod ends and weld-in bungs- none of which are cheap. So far I plan to drill several holes into all of the link brackets and of course the links themselves will be adjustable. I think it would be helpful to hear some specific mistakes that some of you have made to prevent the rest of us from wasting hundreds of dollars of materials.

Was hoping you'd see this Kris, thanks for the input.

I'm still a long while off from linking the Yota but it's definately something I want to start learning about.

all i can say is play with the 4 link calculator. you want a high roll center no roll steer and anty-squat around 100.

From what I've read you real don't need to be any larger Dia. than 1.75 anything over that is over kill. Just my $.02 on the topic, been reading on it for over 2 years..
