I cant understand..the welder keeps splattering boogers over wherever I am welding..

Do I have voltage or wire speed or what too high..what causes this?

Id say wire speed is too high

Probably to hot also. Tilt the gun down toward the base metal. Your under cutting the upper piece of steel with too much penetration.

Also clean...very, very clean steel will weld much better with less spatter.

Look at it real good... you started out moving fast and then slowed down...looks like you rotated the gun instead of keeping the same angle the whole way.

If it's laying down nice at a certain angle... keep it there. Tilting it up will bottom the wire out on the steel causing erratic spatter.

Nevermind me, I'm feeling analytical right now.:smt040

Did you prep where you were going to weld (grind off that antirust crap?)

no....

no....

That would be problem #1. Clean = less spatter.

always clean the metal realy good before you weld. Makes things so much better.

1.) Clean up the metal

2.) turn down the heat, you are undercutting the shit out of it

3.) check your tip, it may be full of slag

4.) practice, practice, practice :D

You're maintaing a pretty consistent bead which is good too, the more practice you have, the more consistent it will be. Just make sure it's good practice!

Yup practice.

I find if I haven't welded in a couple weeks/months it takes me a bit to get back at it. Like riding a bike, you don't forget but you get rusty over time.

Also it's much better to weld multiple passes verus a wide ass bead.

Lay down a root pass, then 2 beads on each side, and then a bit wider bead over the top (cap).

Werd.
Last time I time I picked up a welder I hadn't used one in about 8 months. My first few beads looked kind of crappy.
I haven't touched a welder in like 6 months now so I'll have to lay a few pratice beads next time.

After looking at it, are you filling a gap? Look past the end of the weld (left side). There is a gap there. Also if you look at the base metal at the end there seems to be slight lack of fusion. It seems a little cold not to hot. At the start makes me think you might be to cold too because that is round and looks undercut. The second one looks to hot. That one is undercut.

Clean your welds and practice on scrap to get your settings right, then weld the good stuff.
