OK, I've got the long arms on the rear, now looking for a muffler. I've got a 3" converter and 3" tailpipe. For those of you that have heard these mufflers, which is the quietest inside (resonance)?

Dynomax Bullet
Moroso Spiral
Magnaflow round

All are round mufflers, but I'm looking for something fairly quiet.

Thanks.

I've got a MagnaFlow 14" oval body on mine, pretty loud. Pam has the 16" oval on hers and it's a little tamer. You can fit oval mufflers with long arms, just need a good exhaust shop.

Bullets are loud, same with the Mangaflow.

I have a magnaflow cat and 14" Magnaflow oval and it is pretty loud, not a whole lot quieter than just the factory cat just sounds a little better.

i'm running this - sounds a little throaty when new (with my 4.0), but definitely mellowing with age - i like the sound now - installed this time last year

Yeah, I was looking at the Hushpower, but they don't make it in 3". If I were running smaller diameter pipe, I would have gotten that one.

Any one ever hear a Dynomax Ultra Flow? They make that in a 4" round, 18" long version.

honestly, I think it would be harder to fit a longer muffler it there than a wider one, at least that is true with my clayton's.

x2

My turndown is just about even with the rear LCA brackets. The exhaust shop that did my exhaust for me used the rear LCA brackets to run a tab over to the turndown as well to help stabilize everything. My cat sits on the top of the x-member.

I have the RE long arms, not triangulated like Claytons. The upper arm goes straight back, thus leaving plenty of room length wise (if it is small diameter). I could fit an oval muffler if it were short enough, but anything that short is liable to be extremely loud. I am still going to go over the rear axle with a tailpipe which should keep it relatively quiet inside. Thanks for the imput though.

Sounds great on the 4.0L. I'll be putting one on my Toyota eventually.

I ran mine over the axle and out the side.

I bought and installed a Moroso Spiral. It's certainly not a quiet muffler by any means. Sounds good though.

I am using a Summit Racing muffler on my Jeep. It's not "road legal" according to Summit, but it was either that muffler or nothing at all with the way I set it up. Plus it was cheap. No sense on spending lots of money on a muffler.

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM%2D630805&N=700+115&autoview=sku

It's fairly loud compared to stock, but nothing crazy. It doesn't attract attention when I drive it on the street, so that works for me.

Here is a 3" one.

I just have a turn down welded onto the back of it and it hangs over the end of my belly pan.

I have a magnaflow (that is all they had at the muffler shop that would fit) it is a normal center in and offset out oval muffler and I got it to fit tight fit but it is in there with Claytons. I have my cat pushed as far forward as it will go and it is turned a little to sit partially above the rear of the crossmember. I'll see if I can get pics this weekend.

I went with a muffler like this.

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM%2D630805&N=700+115&autoview=sku

I fit it in with a stock converter after alittle bit of work and triming. This is not the muffler i used I cant remember the inlet and outlet measurements. but it is just like this one and the price was the same. about $22... $32 to the door. and they are on top of there shipping department.

I wound up running two mufflers. I have a bullet up front (right behind the converter) and a Moroso spiral flow that I'm using as a resonator. It looks like ass, but sounds good.

Its not much quieter than having nothing at all. But I like it. it did deepen the tone of the jeep some. It just gets me through inspection.

I run a flowmaster 40 on my 4.sl0. i shortened up the "downpipe" so that it stops right above the x-member. shortened up the input of the cat and welded that to the pipe, then shortened up the output of the cat and the input of the flowmaster so it all fits in nice and tight before the rear LCA mount and up higher so i can have a nice flat belly.

I am running a glass pack on my 4.0 WJ. It sounds decent. It really is not that loud inside. I have it vented out the side just behind the passenger rear tire. This comes in handy because at 6 inches of lift it puts the muffler the right level for a pimped out Honda playing some crappy rap music.

Anyway I think 4.0s sound great with a glass pack or cherry bomb. They also fit in places other mufflers cant.

I love the way the FM 40 sounds. nice low yet mellow rumble at idle and not real loud when you're in it, but enough to make it sound like it's got some ass.

I did this.
Shortened downpipe, flanged to the cat, which is flanged ot a Ravin muffler that is only 14" long and oval.
The turndown is about even with the upper rear control arm mounts on the unibody, and is strapped up to the underbelly.
With a Mopar header, Magnaflow cat, and Ravin dumping under the truck, the exhaust is a non-issue on the trails and the sound inside isn't bad at all even at highway speeds.
