Did you upgrade your cooling system for the arb bumper? Ive read all over the place that for a 2000 wj one must upgrade to a newer cooling system but im not sure all that it entails.. I would like an arb bumper this summer if the cooling upgrade isnt too extensive

wjguy
04-13-2007, 12:27 PM
the coolong upgrade is really all dependent were you live and the places that you will be wheeling and how hard you are on the skinny pedal. the upgrade is changing your stock cooling a hydraulic cooling system from a newer model so you can get the parts you need fairly cheap from a junk yard but thats even if you need it. I havent done it and dont plan on it but I live in washington and it doesnt get all that hot around here but I do plan on putting some vents or a scope on my hood just to let some of the hot air escape. so I would say unless you live in arizona or some other desert area I wouldnt worry about it.

it is a bare housing ready for brackets and I have the 3rd member and shafts but no brakes, they had to be cut off due to it sitting outside for so long, but since you are local I would take $100 for it and if you want it once I get my jeep back together i can meet you somewhere if you would like.

got the dana 44hp in today, still need to push the front end out a little and adjust the track bar, but I had to put the tires on to see what 37''s look like. I will be putting in the 9'' in the morning and rolling it out of the garage. I still need to have new front brake lines built, trim the fenders, and maybe extend the rear brake lines a little.

Cut out the old spare tire recess, cut the skid plate around 6" and tuck it all up nice and tight. I used some 3" tube in the frame rail to run the gas lines through. Oh, and weld up some tabs around the floor cutout. Drill matching holes to the new "floor" that you put in the rear. Bolt the new "floor" to the tabs so you can have some easy access to the fuel pump. The rear portion of the WJ's body flexes a bit more now, (lost stx'l integrity from removing the floor) but I can live with it. Maybe some bracing could help yours.

wjguy
03-20-2008, 12:26 PM
thanks I will keep that in mind when I do it, maybe some frame stiffeners in the back. plus a few bars across the hole and only a little door in the center to get to the fuel pump.

78-79 D60's are the most popular but not for D44s from F-150s. 78-79 D44s have the cast on radius arm mounts compared to welded on mounts of the earlier D44s.

This site has a lot of good info on the front D44s.

Nicely built WJ.

Looks like you need a new rear bumper.

very nice !! are you going to weld something to cover that big ol hole ?

wjguy
05-16-2009, 09:59 AM
ya I need to pick up a sheet to put in there but I havent got off work in time to get one before they close.

1/8" works good. And at the same time you can weld some brackets for a heavy duty cable strap so your lunch box doesn't flip over...or for hauling stuff

I'd also suggest some torsional bracing for the frame back there. The frame and body flex a whole lot more on mine after doing the tank tuck. I did not brace it, but now the rear hatch contacts my (custom) bumper and has deformed a bit under hard flex.

I stitch welded 1/8" plate into mine, but I actually opened up the hole into a big rectangle that stretched from like 3/4" inside of each frame rail, the metal there is doubled up and pinch welded for the frame rail so its easy to weld to and strong. I havent noticed any flexing of the body yet, but only time will tell.

check out my build thread for detailed pics if you care.

ya I will check it out, I was thinking I needed to do some bars from the frame rails.

so I finally got ove to the old mans house for the bumper build this week.
3/16th plate should do. doing brackets tomorrow and paint next week but for now I think it turned out pretty good.
What do you guys think?

Yes I was interested in the mounting also.

ed: how loud is it with the v8 and the glasspack?

wjguy

no pics of the mounts yet but I will try and take some today or tomorrow.

Its not to loud actually, prob a little louder than a flowmaster.

I like the bumper man! The only thing I think you should change is get rid of that factory hitch, Cut out the tin can of a factory bumper these WJ's have and put your hitch in your rear bumper like I did, the clearance has saved my ass multiple times. Hell if you cut that sheet metal out you could also do the extra storage space like I did

ya that is the plan. I am going to build a new gas tank skid at the same time. but I want the hitch to be the lowest point until I get that done.
than I will incorporate the hitch into the bottom of the bumper.
for now we built brackets that mount to the sides of the hitch.

The bumper is built from 3/16th, but its not all that heavy.
tire carrier, back up lights to follow in a month or so but for now I will sand and sand and sand some more and get it all painted up.

Cool man. Yeah the 3/16 should help you out for sure. I built mine out of .230 (basically 1/4") and it's gotta be over 100lbs.

wow that came out real sharp...any reason you didnt want to ditch the hitch and weld in a receiver?

is there a tire carrier being built next?

also, ill be building my rear bumper soon, still requesting pics of how you mounted it...

again looks sick..

Yea mounting pics plz. Is it similar to agitatedpancake's above?

lakailimited06

on his photobucket ,it looks like he used angled steel and bolted it to the side and the bottom of the rear uniframe rails...

wjguy
02-24-2010, 06:03 PM
I am going to be raising the hitch up about 4'' so the hitch itself will be the final mount, as of now I have some 3/16th plate that I put in on each side to locate my mounting position.

Ya I have been playing around on autocad for the carrier, I am currently not working so all jeep related items have been put on the back burner.

once I get the mount done I will post up some pics.

It's been years since I've posted on here. But I figured why not put on an update.

Still have the jeep pretty much the same. Added some lights and a winch and a cage and I am in the process of installing onboard air and moving my batteries. Here are some recent pics. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/28/e5u8a9ed.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/28/8u3u5u9e.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/28/2y7ereta.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/28/e5ede9ur.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/28/upu7ama7.jpg

Pretty loud. I have a switch in the back by the hatch though so it only runs when I am outside the vehicle filling tires.

That's awesome, I've got a 90' Comanche, I have been trying to decide to do a 5.3 or build a stroker out of a high output 4.0 and swap the newer dash and all in. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/01/29/f89bdfba2dbd4c43086a47a41f323e2a.jpg

A few dents! And a pile of steel. I am going to be cutting out the rockers and putting in 2x4 1/4" square. And plating the frame.
