So the story goes... Tuesday morning I was on my way to work and got into an accident, rear ended hella hard, enough to fold the unibody at the rear wheels, causing the rear hatch to not operate properly. My back was hurting pretty good so I went to the Dr. and got 2 days off work...

Just enough time to get this puppy... sorry for dark pics...

Good choice with the 5.9L.

I agree the lights are very bright, but I just don't like the styling of them. The early 3rd gen lights aren't bad... just those... dunno. Not my thing.

Truck should last you a LONG time. I have 170,000 miles on my 98 24v. The transmission isn't the greatest, but other than that, I really haven't replaced much on it. A few seals and wear items, oh and an alternator, but that's about it really.

Yeah the power levels on these trucks are just SICK. With all the mods on my truck, I don't think I'm even at those stock power #s. Granted my truck was 215hp, 420 ft/lbs torque bone stock

Really nice pickup.

Here's a few tips on the insurance;

If you are in an accident and they total your car that is pretty much worthless, an insurance company will compensate you for loss of "basic transportation". Used to be, they would give you a minimum payment of $500 but the last time I really saw this happen was almost ten years ago, so maybe it's $1,000 today. Anyway, that's assuming a vehicle in really bad shape before the accident, and your XJ might be a little better than that...the $100 you paid means nothing.

Another thing, is that the insurance company of the guy that hit you will pay your lost wages, (for how much and for how long varies by state), and for the cost of a rental car until settlement is made. When I got rear-ended years ago, (totaling the BMW 2002 I was driving) and my only remaining street car was an XJ, I got the other guy's insurance to pay for a Cadillac for a month. I was in a lot of neck pain from the whiplash, and I just was not comfortable bouncing around the bad New York City streets in my XJ. I explained my concern to the claim adjuster, and they had no problem at all with my request for a cushy car. You are not necessarily limited by the very small amount that your own policy would pay for a rental replacement vehicle (assuming you have that coverage), but I think given what you were driving you might be hard pressed to negotiate for more than a mid class car.

Hope you feel better.

AprilzWarrior

Thanks for the info... Im still try to get the guys Policy number... the one he gave me is not a valid AAA number. However they show the kid and vehicle as being insured with AAA. Meaning they (AAA) cannot give me the policy number over the phone... I will need to go through the Police Department (report that was taken) good thing too.

Got those same gauges in the 'stroke, love 'em. I like the hidden valve for the bags too. The PO of my truck put the valves for the bags on the rocker panel just in front the rear wheels. All sorts of grime on them, not even sure the valves work anymore but haven't needed them yet either.

nate
02-18-2008, 06:09 PM
Something to think about...
It's a good idea to keep the 2 bags separate for better stability. When you are towing/loaded heavy and go around a turn, the bags will transfer air to each other and not help with body roll.

I put mine where the top bolts for the rear license plate would go. I thought I was being all smart doing that until I looked at the directions a few days later and it shows to do it like that right in them :tease:

Some what true... but with Leafs thats Null. Linked suspension or Swing Arm design its a must to have them seperate.

I did not feel it nessasary to do so.

nate
02-18-2008, 11:05 PM
True, you probably won't notice it towing that fairly light trailer.

The guys that told me to keep it separate had slide in campers in the bed. Those weigh what, 2500-3000lbs?

They are top heavy, so anything to help body roll/sway is a good thing.

Anyone else see my logic with this?

So you agree with me.

Its "plausable" as they say. And as far as seeing youre logic... my brother in-law sees it just like you. We had a good discussion about it too.

It was simple for me, 1 fill point makes it a no brainer. Ive towed with them and love them. My SOTP Dyno says its smoother as well.

How do you like the straight pipes while towing? I'm paranoid that if I straight pipe my '04.5 that I am going to despise the drone and super loud exhaust. But, I also pull a 32' 5'er that does a good job of impersonating a billboard rolling down the highway. It keep the ol' Cummins loaded up pretty well. A 14 hour tow with a loud drone will get me in a heap of trouble. ;)

Best order I can...

The tank I did not use only 2.5 gallon

Factory elbow next to new unit...

Installed Brake, took maybe 10min, there is a bracket on the exhaust and tranz and if removed you can move the pipe easily to align pipe to brake.

Rear tank mount, welded to crossmember infront of spare tire...

Front tank mount, welded to bottom of bed crossmember/support. Just in front of Carrier Bearing/drive shaft...

Front Air Chuck, also another at rear bumper on hitch...

Compressor Guage and switch... I DID NOT want it inside, so under the hood it went on the passenger side.
http://fototime.com/F2DD995CE72FF6A/standard.jpg

Brake all tightened up and air lines ran to it.
http://fototime.com/4808F6DC92B567E/standard.jpg

Completed air tank, Silver Steel Braid line goes to compressor, and pressure switch is in the front of the tank.
http://fototime.com/A1F3963CDCFB400/standard.jpg

Rear of tank looking forward...
http://fototime.com/7E51E86E830D8A4/standard.jpg

Compressor is mounted on top of the frame rail on the passenger side, I cannot hear it running with the motor on, I cant hear anything with the motor running actually. The brackets I made and still need paint but its been too wet and cold to paint.
http://fototime.com/3F55633A0510B96/standard.jpg

Impressions:
With the PacBrake enguaged and not having a muffler the truck does sound much like a big rig when they use the Jake. I can hear the engine compression very clearly when enguaged, as well as the relief valve on the cylinder goes off. When in Tow/Haul mode and the brake on the truck slows very rapidly and controlled. I can hardly wait to yank the Jeep around !
