Looks nice. Is that 1.75" .120 wall? and what's it going under?

Kraqa

1-7/8" .120 wall.

the OD is the same as 1-1/5" SCH40 so i can bend it in my pipe bender. It is a bit larger then SCH40 so it fits uber snug and doesn't kink.

it's going under an XJ.

Poor Kris, must be tough to figure out which of the three pictured lincoln powermigs to use for each project.:smt066

Looks great Kris. Specs on the 9"? Is he staying with that stock third member?

You guys build trailers in that shop?

We have a nice shop at work that I would be able to work out of... heated floors, screw drive air compressor, etc. Only thing is I build bombs for a living for welding and grinding + explosives = :smt059

Here's the update.

Shaved and plated. The ring gear will get some 1/4" plate monday.

Why are all your seams facing out? Thats a no no.

You definately have awesome skills. Nice work.

One question, when you shaved the bottom, did you just remove excess material, or did you actually cut a hole in the bottom that you later covered with the plate?

How thick are the "covers" on the rear of the diff? You planning on doing any sort of rock ring in case he accidently backs into something?

Looks kickass btw

seams out...who cares...lol

yes i cut a hole in the bottom i removed 1" of the housing and replaced it with 1/4". It seems thin for a shaved axle but considering the housing is around 1/8" think at the bottom its beef.

and yes the ring gear will be getting soem protection

with the huge forces on a truss Id only expect to see thicker than .120 wall tube, and seams out can lead to the tube peeling open (Ive had this happen, and read lots about it on PBB) I even saved the piece of HREW that did peel. If it gets pushed or hit right it will open right up !!!:smt085 Just trying to help save you some grief.

There is a local guy I know with an early Bronco, that had a wayyy beefier truss than that one and fucking fubard the shit out of it. Taking out links, arms drive line, ujoints, and slamming a fuel tank. This EB tried out for TTC but did not make it in, hell Ive seen his EB in 2 of Petersons Rags.

Edit...
and as Id bet that truss may never rip from the housing, rather the links ripping the .120wall tube itself. (maybe make the 4link tabe wrap around the tube and touch the housing, that would help aid from ripping).

I could be wrong too, but this is going in someones rig. Ive always been safe than sorry.

Yeah... I say if 1/8" is ok, then 1/4" must be better :-D Could be why my ZJ weighs close to 5000lbs too.

if it was for a lined setup i woudl be doing things a bit difrently. i wana keep this housing as light as i can while still strong as fawk.

5000LB? Seems pretty light for a Grand. Mine weighs 5500Lb with me and no parts or tools. I'm a little skinny guy BTW.

The axle looks good. Why all the trussing if it's for a XJ? What size tires, lift, engine, etc? Also is this a driver? If so are you going to add something to help with lubrication/heat of the gears?

That's a sweet truss... lol Now all you have to do is grab some D60 or 70 outers and run 35 or 40 spline FF axle shafts

Pretty heavy, consider stock mine was ~3700lbs. That means I've added ~1300lbs of shit to it
