8.8 in rear, lockers f/r gears
long arm, cant decide on brand yet, prob go with clayton
some 5.5 coils most likely
tired of this puck shit and want to move to all coils, then next year, its a big decision on whether or not to get 33's 34's or 35's..I have plenty of time to worry about it, so meh

For inside of my fenders right there I just shot some rubberized under coating in there. You can get it at Wally World, Afro Zone, Kragens, Napa, etc.

The actual fenders themselfs, get some door edge molding and place it on the cuts. You might want to use silicone or something to hold it in place.
I've got no pics of that though. Search for trimming and someone had posted pics of it. Gives the trim a finish look unlike my now hagarred fenders.

Ok, I am in a pickle. I can put this HP30 and 8.8 in and run it with 4.56 gears, lock it front/rear and clayton long arm it, run 33's now and when they run down, run 35's and for the wheeling I do, i really DONT think ill break any axles..but i dunno, would it be smarter and whiser to save my money for a while longer, and get a 44 for front and a ford 9 for rear? Im so confusedd!

jfowlzj95
01-16-2007, 11:18 PM
My opinion, up to 35s with the HP30 and the 8.8. Anything bigger you'd probably want the 44/9 combo.

I plan on going with the 44/9. I'll be running probably 33s to 35s for a while with this but my ultimate plan is to go to 36/37. Puma297 is running 35s on his HP30 and 8.8, I dont think hes had any problems with it.

b1pig
01-17-2007, 12:49 AM
with a locker, youre gonna bust a u-joint if you do some tough stuff. maybe not a catastrophic failure, but you can expect a failure. the passenger d30 shaft spit the ujoint cap off, and before i could tape it up, half of the needle bearings fell out. this was heaped onto several other issues at Moab this past September.

If the wheeling is sick, carry spares and you may consider upgrading to alloy shafts. I carry a spare set of D35 shafts and I have spare u-joints and outters already in a hub assy. only an inner driver side shaft for now... hoping to upgrade. i'm running d30 aussie locker/d35 limited slip on 4.56 right now.

i doubt the claytons will slide over the stiffeners since both are made to hug around the "frame" rails pretty tightly. besides that, either one alone provides sufficient enough reinforcement for the rails--no need for both imo.

If I were going to make a custom bumper, here's what I would make it look like. I may yet build this...or find someone who can build it for me (I don't have a welder right now). I would consider buying this one ready made if it were not completely made of plastic (Iceland Off Road).....yeah, that would last about 10 minutes on the trail. I think I would set the winch in quite a bit lower as well...the last thing any ZJ needs is anything blocking airflow to the radiator.

Are you going to try and knock this out before GSE or are you going to wait until after GSE to start it? My suggestion is to wait b/c there's a good chance with what you're going into that it won't be done. Take this from experience from someone always trying to do too much in too little time.

Are you going to install it or is your mom going to pay someone to do it? :)

We got the rear axle "In" today, need to pull it all out and fully weld all the backets/paint/reassemble. For those that don't think D35 brakes are interchangable with 8.8 stuff, it was the exact same, the F8.8 parking brake has 2 springs on the top instead of the D35's one spring. I plan to get him breaking in those 4:56s by mid afternoon but we normallly don't have sh!t go our way so it may take alitte longer. I am sure he will have pics when he gets back home.

Still rubs a bit, these claws are bitch soft lugs, chunks of lug get spat out every time it rubs, gay!

LA rides SOOOO good, glides over bumps, very freaking stout!
Kinda swaying on the road, not too bad, took out rear sway bar..but yeah, kinda swaying..maybe cuz im 7 inches tall, D'oh!

front axle is almost perfectly centered, The RE track bar seems to be a little short to make the axle centered, but they are very close, gunna get a new one soon.

Instead of ordering shocks, now I have to go get an exhaust routed because stock one didnt work..thats gunna cost a bit...

all in all, LA themselves took 2 1/2 days..not including gearing the axles...and this is pretty nonstop working till at leasty 3 in the morning..good fun, cant wait to wheel the damn thing!

I got around to reading this post from the begining. Huh, is'nt wierd how shortly after the first cut to the body, people are soon asking you what it started out as. The grinder and sawzall could quite be 2 of the most important inventions.......................Ever!! The first cut is the hardest. After that the madness consumes you, and soon you are the fabrication master. Good lookin rig. Keep it up. When you know that the "Fab Gods" have you is when your never done, just done for the day.

Simple.. I save for a while making 6.75 an hour, working about every day for 5 hours, 8 on weekends. i saved for monthes for longarms and building axles up..My friend is the master fabricator, so I got sliders,f/r bumpers for next to nothing(200 or so bucks for material) friends that set up gears saves money..basically just save non stop and do side jobs like yard work to get more money

my mom has only payed 250 of my mods..which was for the exhaust which cost 350..other than that, its all me..
Oh and I got the 35s on 3.75 wheels by trading my 32s on wheels and 150 bucks toa friend..so, having good luck, good friends, and working alot, gets me this shittttttt

each paycheck i get is between 250-310..and it all goes to the jeep..so basically..im an idiot for dumping every penny in this thing..but yeah...thats prob the main reason..cuz i dont save any other money

how much of the coil buckets did you have to trim for the T&T steering and I'd assume you had to cut off the SS mount also right? do you have any bump steering?

and it looks like your going to have to change trackbars since your RE one doesn't look like it will let the drives side droop much at all

we cutoff the SS and just trimmed the sway bar mounts..It doesnt really hit much..barely at all because we just extended my steering stops.

Fix your passenger side quick disco. Looks like it just needs to be flipped to the outside of the bracket like the driver side is.

When are you going to bolt the rear bumper and tank skid on right...the damn bolts are falling out.

I would also cut the hanger on the exhaust and put that tip up higher. It would tuck it up higher out of the way.

The bolt isnt "not tight" we have 2x2 running in the framerail and nuts welded on teh inside, when we were tightening down all the shit, that weld broke..thus not allowing for that "loose" bolt to tighten..so its basically worthless..eventually I will pull it all out, remake that sides support..and be good to go..

by spin freely i mean..almost like..when no torque is applied..it winds down from spinning to a stop untill I gas again, causing the sound because theres no driveshaft? I dont really know..just thinking..

I think you have the source of the noise nailed, when I had my front shaft out it made a loud whining noise when I would step on the gas from a stop. The noise would continue during driving as well.

f yours is the 249 then it might make noise since your frying the vc by removing the front DS.

but since he has a 231 it will just free spin. I never noticed a noise when I had no front driveshaft on my 231 and he said wood haha:D

Front woody is in. The length I need it at is pictured, is having the blue paint showing fine? I assume its just a notice that the end of teh driveshaft is coming?

Yes it's probably OK, as long as it doesn't slide much farther out when you droop the axle.

A "notice"? No. It's a low friction coating to extend spline life and reduce wear.

Damn, you might want to make sure they sent you the right driveshaft. That's an awful lot of spline to be showing at ride height.

Measured the splines that are visable..2 inches, called tom woods, he said there are a total of 6 and half inches, so there is plenty of spline left, and I am fine..

Now I must drill out my crossmember for more droop...

A set of stubby wrenches... 15mm i think works great for the driver side shocks. You don't have to remove all that mess. FYI for next time.

The build looks great.
