ive been looking for a 15 inch rim to use my current 31s bfg ats (finally bought some 33 mts) for a chevy 6 bolt, but so far the only ones i can find have a width of 5.5 and the min recomended width is 7. can i use my old tires, or should i keep looking for rims?

or alternativly is it possible to stick a 15 inch tire on a 16 inch wheel?

wwell i know it was a long shot that a 15 inch tire would fit a 16 inch rim, but whatabout with the more narrow rim?

I may fit but it'll be a bitch to get on and the bead might pop off under cornering.

What have you been smoking???

Seriously, I think you need to look a bit further. I am sure the rims you want are out there. Try the web sites of the major off-road wheel manufacturers like Pro Comp, Mickey Thompson, American Racing, etc. Or try Summit, they have a lot of wheels as well.

yeah i know, but the ones i want are $40 a wheel more, i called canaidan tire and they said that they had a 15x5.5 6 bolt wheel for my truck and that my 31x10.5 tire would fit, i called them crazy, and thought id ask online ot make sure i was right, as for the 15 tire on teh 16 wheel, i was pretty ssure that wasnt gonna work but also thought id ask, just incase it was possible to cut down the tire an inch or something, i donno. the less money i spend the better, because im broke.

and when i asked for a 15 inch 6 bolt wheel the guy on the phone asked me "wheel? do you mean rim?"

5.5 is the spacing for the bolt pattern, not the width.

Wrong.

YJ/TJ/ZJ/XJ are 5 on 4.5.
CJ is 5 on 5.5.

If you read the original post he wants a 6 lug wheel. Most (if not all) 6 lug wheels are 5.5" bolt pattern. If your looking for 6 lug wheels and can't find anything wider than 5.5", you're not looking. Almost every aftermarket wheel for 6 lug will be wider than that.

Well fine, what the kid at Crappy Tire told him was the rim size and width.
I bet he doesn't even know what a bolt pattern is.

15 x 5.5 - 6 bolt? I think that's what my 70 Chev C-10 came with stock.
Perfect width for the 6.70-15s it came with.

Just go to the j/y and look for rims from a Chev 4x4 ,Full Size Jeep, or even a Toyota, a lot of these came with 7" or 8" wide rims from the factory and can be had cheap. I had 8" rally wheels off a chevy on my old J-10 and a set of stock 8" wagon wheels (it was a Honcho in a former life). You can also find alloy rims in the same sizes for cheap, why buy new if you are just gonna beat em up offroad?
